Amazing Grace Gospel — A new church in Columbus. Worship services are at 10:30 a.m., with an evening mass at 6:30 p.m, led by Pastor Tom Deane.

Bible study is every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. and there is an open mic night every Friday at 6:30 p.m. Bring songs and instruments and praise the lord.

The church is located at 2611 Central Ave., Suite 2, Columbus, adjacent to Amazing Joe’s restaurant and next to the All State Insurance Building.

Bible Church of Columbus — In the 10 a.m. service on Sunday, Pastor Dave Marvin continues a series of messages entitled, “Preventing Heart Disease.” The church will learn how fear and doubt can be either useful or harmful, depending on how we respond to them. We will use Biblical examples to see God’s desired outcome when using these emotions correctly.

Child care for nursery to preschool is 10 a.m. Sunday.

Children’s ministry for kindergarten through Grade 6 is from 9:45 to 11:10 a.m.

Teen ministry for Grades 7 to 12 is from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Adult Life Groups are at 8:30 a.m., 5 p.m., and 5:30 p.m., during the weekdays.

Dayspring Church Apostolic — Worship begins at 11:15 a.m. at the church, 2127 Doctors Park Drive, Columbus. On Sunday, the church will be inspired by “The New Atheism, How Religion Poisons Everything.” This is taken from Psalm 14:1, where, the fool has said in his heart there is no God. Every visitor receives a free gift.

Sunday Education Session starts at 10 a.m. and covers “A New Loyalty,” as shared in 1 Thessalonians 1:1-10. Bible Study is Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. and takes a deep dive on the message from the previous Sunday.

Our Prayer of Power starts at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday and is preceded with requests and instructions on prayer.

The Celebrate Recovery session starts at 6:30 p.m. for about an hour.

Ignite is the Youth Growth Session that happens every third Friday.

First Presbyterian — Worship begins at 9:30 a.m. Sunday at the church, 512 Seventh St., Columbus. On Transfiguration Sunday, the church will reflect on that mysterious mountain-top encounter (Matthew 16:24–17:8) between Jesus, Moses and Elijah. The sermon, “Now you tell me!”, will reflect on how the disciples perceived Jesus, the teacher they had been following. The Adult Choir will lead in worship, and the congregation will celebrate the sacrament of communion.

Lent will begin on Ash Wednesday, which this year falls on March 6. That day a joint service will take place at North Christian Church at 7 p.m. Pastor Felipe Martinez will preach a sermon titled “Traveling Light” on Matthew 18:1-9. The choirs of North Christian and First Presbyterian will combine to lead in worship. The sacrament of communion will be shared, and the imposition of ashes will be offered.

Infant and toddler care is available from 9:15 a.m. to noon Sunday.

The men’s and women’s support groups meet at 7 a.m. Fridays, and a second men’s support group of working-age men meets every Monday at 6:15 a.m.

People in need of a meal are invited to Hot Meals, offered 5 p.m. Friday, with entry through the glass doors on Franklin Street.

The church is LGBTQ-friendly, open and affirming to all.

First United Methodist — On Sunday at the 9 a.m. Traditional Service and the 11 a.m. Celebration Service, Rev. Howard Boles will deliver the message, “Ministry to the Valley,” at the church, 618 Eighth St., Columbus. The scripture will be Luke 9:28-36. Sunday school for all ages begins at 10:10 a.m. Child care is available during both services.

Chocolate Sunday is at 10:10 a.m. on Sunday, presented by the Hope Committee. Come down to Fellowship Hall at 10:10 a.m. and sample the many varieties of chocolates available.

Flintwood Wesleyan — The Amplify non-traditional service is 9 a.m. Sunday and Sunday school classes are at 10 a.m. The Well traditional service is at 11 a.m. Both Amplify and The Well are conducted in the main sanctuary. They will be led by Rev. Wes Jones, senior pastor. The Prayer Team will meet at 8 a.m., and Sunday school classes meet in their regular rooms at the church, located at 5300 E. 25th St., Columbus. Choir practice is at 5 p.m. followed by the evening service at 6 p.m.

The small group Bible study “In The Beginning…” is temporarily on hold until further notice.

Wednesday activities begin with supper at 5:30 p.m. followed by GLOW at 6:15 p.m. The Prayer Team meets at 6:15 p.m. in The Prayer Room. Youth meets at 6:30 p.m. and Adult Bible study meets at 7 p.m. in the Sanctuary.

On Thursdays, Cub Scout Pack 588 will meet when events are scheduled and Boy Scout Troop 588 will meet at 7 p.m.

Destin Gentry’s senior project fundraiser dinner is March 9. The proceeds will go to Flintwood Wesleyan Church to buy a bus.

On March 10, there will be a baptism service. This will be a combined service and no Sunday school. Evening activities are also dismissed.

Garden City Church of Christ — At the 10 a.m. worship on Sunday, the title for the sermon is “Faith at Home: Building Strong Families at Garden City Church of Christ,” and will be presented by Pastor Brian Gilroy.

Through March 31, there will be a series that will emphasize the calling to pass down our faith in homes and to the next generation. The series will cover every area of home life with messages to married couples, singles, men, women and young people.

Prayer Emphasis Week begins on March 24, so there will be a special speaker from Harvest Prayer Ministries speaking on that Sunday.

Grace Lutheran — At the 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. services, Rev. John Armstrong will be bringing the message. Children’s Sunday School is at 9:20 a.m.

“The Alpha Course: an intro to Christian ideas” continues 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday with the topic “How does God guide us?” All welcome. Contact the church if child care is needed.

“Searching the Scriptures” continues 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday with a detailed look at the Apostles’ Creed. All welcome. Contact the church if child care is needed.

Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University will be held at Grace on Sundays from 3 to 5 p.m. Contact the office for registration information.

Grace will acknowledge the start of the Lenten season with an Ash Wednesday service at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, beginning with the imposition of ashes and concluding with the Lord’s Supper. Pastor Armstrong will have a special Lenten preaching series each Wednesday in lent on the theme “Will the Real Jesus please stand up? False Christs in the world and in the church today.”

Old Union United Church of Christ — Join at 10 a.m. on Sunday for Transfiguration Sunday. Sunday school is at 9 a.m., followed by fellowship at 9:40 a.m. Pastor Kirby Rupp will deliver the message, “Let Your Light Shine,” with readings from Exodus 34:29-35; 2 Corinthians 3:12-4:2; and Luke 9:28-43a.

Wednesday Bible Study resumes at 6 p.m.

At 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, the Ash Wednesday Service takes place.

St. Paul Lutheran — The 8 and 10:45 a.m. services on Transfiguration Sunday will be celebrated at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 6045 E. State St., Columbus, with Pastor Doug Bauman’s sermon entitled “The Topic of Conversation,” based on Luke 9:28 -36. Children will process with Alleluia Banners that mark the beginning of the Lenten season with Ash Wednesday.

Together as Family Day will be celebrated during the Sunday school hour at 9:30 a.m. when parents with their children will “talk” to familiar people from the Transfiguration and look at God’s amazing world with the help of science experiments.

At the 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, Ash Wednesday communion service will be based on “Learn from Jesus Christ to Pray,” with Pastor Bauman’s sermon entitled “Father Forgive Them for They Know Not What They Do.” Imposition of ashes will begin at 6:30 in the church. Dinner will be served in the Fellowship Room from 5:45 to 6:30 p.m. for a free-will offering that will support Ascension Lutheran School in Gary, Indiana.

Petersville United Methodist — At the 9 a.m. worship service on Sunday, the Rev. Stormy Scherer-Berry will deliver the message, “Elevated,” in which she will be focusing on the Transfiguration of Jesus, told in Luke 9:8:28-36. The scriptures will be shared by the liturgist at the church, 2781 N. County Road 500E, Columbus.

The choir will provide special music and Teresa Covert will give the children’s sermon. Holy Communion will be served by the pastor and the lay leader, Joe Bush. A time of fellowship follows the worship service, and at 10:30 a.m. the study “Shaped By God’s Heart” will convene and will be led by the pastor.

The United Methodist Men’s group will meet at 7:15 a.m. on Sunday morning in the fellowship hall.

The Baker’s Dozen study group will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Monday at the home of Larry and Connie Nolting. The Journey study class also meets at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Chris Kimerling’s home. New members are always welcome to both classes.

The Sit and Stitch group will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, also at the Nolting home. Choir practice is at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church, and the Prayer Group will meet at 10 a.m. on Thursday at the church.

The Mountain Mission Truck will be picking up at the church annex on Tuesday. Items should be brought to the church by Sunday.

“Fat Tuesday” will be marked at the Petersville Church on March 5 with a breakfast-type supper being served from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The menu will include biscuits and Bush’s sausage gravy, scrambled eggs, pancakes, fruit, sweet rolls, coffee cake and fruit breads. The cost will be $7, with children 5 years and younger eating free. The proceeds from this event will support the Rev. Scherer-Berry’s mission trip to Uganda, and it will fulfill her 3 year commitment to this project.

An Ash Wednesday service will be held at the church at 7 p.m. on March 6. The Reverend Scherer-Berry’s topic will be “Busy” and centering on the thought of “What does it cost to be so busy?”

March 10 will be Missions Emphasis Sunday at Petersville during the 9 a.m. worship service. Faith Promise pledges will be collected at the end of the service. Some of the Faith Promise missions supported by the church include: Local — Clay Township Fire Dept., Love Chapel; national –United Methodist Committee on Relief, Henderson, Kentucky Settlement; international — Africa University, Feed My Starving Children.

Unitarian Universalist — At 10 a.m. on Sunday, the service message, “Horizon Bound,” will be given by the Rev. Nic Cable, and as part of the annual Celebration Sunday the church will look to the horizon and imagine an exciting and vibrant future, and how as a community the church can truly transform the wider world.

Westside Community — At 10 a.m. Sunday, Pastor Dennis Aud will lead the service at the church, at State Road 46 West and Tipton Lakes Boulevard, Columbus.

The children’s program for birth through sixth grade meets at the same time as the 10 a.m. worship service.

The Tuesday morning women’s Bible study is beginning a new study titled, “Jesus’ Final Week,” by Cindy Bunch. All ladies are invited to this class which meets each Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the church.

Events

First United Methodist — On Friday, FUMC will present their Fridays@First Concert, “Philanthropy Through Song,” featuring the Columbus Indiana Children’s Choir, Parkside Elementary Choir and the Cummins Diversity Choir. This free concert begins at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Petersville United Methodist — From 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, there will be a Fat Tuesday Supper at the church. The meal is $7 and the money will go to support the pastor’s trip to Uganda in July. The menu will consist of Bush’s sausage gravy, biscuits, pancakes, scrambled eggs, fruit and desserts.

Old Union United Church of Christ — A ham and bean dinner is scheduled for 4 to 7 p.m. March 15. The church is located at 12703 N. County Road 50W, Edinburgh.

St. Paul Lutheran — From 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, the Chick-Fil-A Spirit Night will be held at the Columbus restaurant. Twenty percent of proceeds will support the St. Paul Early Childhood Ministry if mentioned when placing food order.
