Owners of the Ruddick-Nugent House prepare to sell the historic property

From the moment you set foot on the front porch of the large white home at 1210 16th St., you know you are welcome.

“The ornament of a house is the friends who frequent it,” a quote from mid-19th century poet Ralph Waldo Emerson reads on a black and gold plaque beneath the doorbell of the Ruddick-Nugent House.

If you turn your back to the door and look out between the four tall columns, you’ll find a beautiful flower garden surrounding a large fountain.

When the bright teal door swings open, you’re greeted by 78-year-old Joyce Orwin and 79-year-old Dennis Orwin. This is their home, but when you book a stay at the couple’s bed and breakfast, it’s your home, too.

And while the couple has loved the decades spent renovating the home, maintaining it and welcoming new friends there, they have now decided it is time for someone else to take on what they started.

When the eight-bedroom house, which is currently on the market for $699,999, officially sells, it will belong to a new owner.
