A horrific discovery was recently made in Jennings County: 12 dogs and puppies, shot and beaten to death, and dumped in a wooded area. It is imperative that whoever killed these dogs be quickly apprehended, and if convicted, given a strong sentence that includes incarceration, psychiatric intervention and a ban on contact with animals.
Animal abusers are cowards who take their issues out on defenseless victims. Not only do they frequently repeat their crimes, many commit violent offenses against human victims as well. The link between cruelty to animals and interpersonal violence is well documented. Many serial rapists and murderers, including school shooters, have a background of abusing animals. The FBI uses reports of cruelty in gauging the threat potential of suspected and known criminals, and the American Psychiatric Association identifies such crimes as one of the diagnostic criteria for conduct disorders.
If anyone has any information about this case, please notify the Jennings County Sheriff’s Office immediately, for everyone’s safety.
