Marketplace: Officials receive engineering excellence award

The City of Columbus, Columbus Parks and Recreation Department, Bartholomew County and Strand Associates has received the ACEC Indiana 2019 Engineering Excellence Award.

David Hayward, executive director of public works and city engineer and Mark Jones, director of Columbus Parks and Recreation Department, along with several city staff and team members from Strand Associates, were on hand to receive the award this month.

The award was given in recognition of the work completed in 2018 by Strand Associates on the Haw Creek People Trail extension, which included the restoration and relocation of a 107-year-old historic steel truss bridge to span Haw Creek near Lincoln Park and Hamilton Community Center and Ice Arena.

This award is made each year by ACEC Indiana, an engineering trade association, to recognize an outstanding engineering achievement.
