Crothersville woman arrested on multiple drug-related charges

A Crothersville woman was arrested on multiple felony drug charges after officers determined she had concealed heroin, methamphetamine and cocaine in a body cavity.

Columbus police said they stopped a vehicle that was speeding near State Roads 46 and 11 at 12:40 a.m. Friday.

A Columbus Police Department canine alerted police to the odor of narcotics inside the vehicle, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

A passenger in the vehicle, Amanda D. Spencer, 38, was determined to be in violation of her probation and was taken into custody, Harris said.

Spencer was then taken to the Johnson County Jail after officers suspected she may have concealed narcotics inside her body, Harris said. Before the jail staff could use a body scanner, Spencer told them she had concealed narcotics inside a body cavity, Harris said.

Spencer was then taken to Columbus Regional Hospital where a search warrant was granted for the removal of the suspected narcotics, Harris said.

Spencer was arrested on preliminary charges of:

  • Violation of probation
  • Felony dealing in heroin
  • Felony possession of heroin
  • Felony possession of methamphetamine
  • Felony possession cocaine
  • Felony possession of a controlled substance

Spencer was being held without bond at the Bartholomew County Jail, jail officials said.
