Tax bills going out Monday

Bartholomew County will be mailing out property tax bills on Monday, said county Treasurer Barb Hackman.

While bills are only sent out once a year, the mailed statements provide information regarding the payment of both installments of your taxes, Hackman said.

This year, the spring installment is due Friday, May 10. The second installment should be submitted no later than Nov. 12., according to a news release.

When taxes are delinquent, making partial payments does not relieve the tax payer of late penalties, fees or of the property being subject to tax sale, the release states.

However, it is the policy of the treasurer’s office to accept payments for taxes of any amount at any time, Hackman said.

For property owners who choose to use traditional mail, payments must be properly addressed, have sufficient postage, and be postmarked on or before the May 10 due date, the release stated.

But there are a number of other ways of making payments, Hackman said.

Online Payment — To pay by credit card or e-check, residents can go to go to bartholomew.in.gov. However, taxpayers are reminded that a small convenience fee will be assessed.

Banks — Several Bartholomew County Banks will accept payments two weeks prior to due date. But those who wish to utilize a bank are reminded they must have their tax bill when they make the payment.

E-Billing — Taxpayers can receive next year’s bill via e-mail by enrolling at bartholomew.in.gov.

However, many residents find the simplest way of making the payment is to drop it off at the Treasurer’s office, located on the first floor of the Bartholomew County Governmental Office building at 440 Third St.

Taxpayers are reminded that a 24-hour drop box is located in that same building directly across from the Crump Theater.
