One driver died and two people were injured in a two-vehicle crash at County Roads 100W and 650S.
Columbus police said the incident happened at 8:52 p.m. Saturday near Rosstown and involved a Jeep and a motorcycle.
The Jeep driver, Ethan Reed Bailey, 21, Columbus, was pronounced dead on the scene by Bartholomew County Coroner Clayton Nolting, according to the coroner’s office.
A Columbus police accident reconstructionist was called to the scene to investigate, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.
Bailey was driving the Jeep that was traveling south on County Road 100W approaching County Road 650S, Harris said.
A 2001 Yamaha motorcycle driven by Clayton Shireman, 22, Columbus, was traveling north on County Road 100W approaching the same intersection, Harris said.
The jeep started to turn east on to County Road 650S in front of the motorcycle’s path, Harris said. The Jeep and motorcycle collided nearly head-on in the northbound lane of 100W, according to the accident reconstructionist.
Bailey was reported dead at the scene, according to the coroner’s office. Nolting determined that the cause of death was massive trauma to the head and cervical spine.
A passenger in the Jeep, Dylan Davis, 22, Seymour, was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital for non-life threatening injuries, Harris said.
Shireman was transported by Lifeline helicopter from the scene to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Harris said. Methodist Hospital officials said this morning Shireman is listed in critical condition at the hospital.
Toxicology tests are performed on all drivers in fatal crashes. Those results take approximately two weeks.
