We no longer have a city service that picks up trapped possums, raccoons and skunks that are in our yards. I have lived at my property since 1962, and that is only two blocks from Columbus East High School.
My husband and I trapped on the average two possums a month. Also, there have been two or three skunks, one raccoon and one groundhog. I never bait the trap. I release the squirrels. Think how many more there would have been if all had been left to wander around.
Since being notified of the loss of this service, I have trapped a possum on the 22nd, 25th and now the 29th of March. Is it the same possum? I have no idea because I release the animal. I wanted to prove to myself that we have a problem.
I have neighbors with pets (dogs and cats) that are out and about in their own yards. What will happen if there is a rabies case found?
I am going to cease my trapping, for I can’t afford to call any other service that was recommended by the city.
