FREETOWN
Carolyn S. Smith, 76, of Freetown, passed away at 3:10 p.m. Monday, April 8, 2019 at Columbus Regional Hospital.
Carolyn was born February 8, 1943, in Franklin, Indiana. On April 14, 1981, she married Melvin H. Smith.
She was a cook at Camp Atterbury for several years and enjoyed baking. Bowling was one of her favorite things to do with her husband, Melvin and they played competitively together for many years. Carolyn loved her dogs also. Her impulsive grocery shopping won’t soon be forgotten by her family.
Survivors include her children, Charles “Chuck” A. (Tammy) Smith of Columbus, Melanie Anne DeBord of North Vernon, Jennifer Dawn Hendrickson of Jennings County; 6 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; brother, David of California; sister Betty of Indianapolis; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Melvin; son, Jeffery Dana Smith; daughter-in-law, Penny Smith and son-in-law, Dwight DeBord.
In keeping with the family’s wishes, cremation is planned and there are no services scheduled at this time.
