A local man was arrested on a preliminary charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated after he drove his vehicle partially into a pond.
Columbus police were sent to Taylor Road, north of 31st Street, about the accident, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman. Officers saw that a truck had crashed through a fence and was partially in a pond off the east side of the street.
The officers saw that the driver of the truck, Troy R. Fear, 48, of 2714 31st St., had difficulty maintaining his balance and noted that his speech was slurred, Harris said.
Fear, who was uninjured, was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital where officers applied for a search warrant for a blood draw when Fear became uncooperative, Harris said.
After obtaining the blood draw, Fear was arrested and taken to the Bartholomew County Jail, Harris said. Fear was released from the jail in lieu of $5,000 bond, jail officials said.
