In the 22-year history of Conference Indiana, Columbus North never has won the conference boys track championship.
The Bull Dogs hope to change that on Friday night at Bloomington North. Columbus North hopes to challenge the 11th-ranked Cougars and No. 14 Bloomington South for the title.
"The boys have a shot," North coach Lou Sipe said. "We’ve worked really hard up to this point. I think we’ve put ourselves in position to compete for a title, and the girls continue to get better. Our conference is very competitive."
The Bull Dogs will be trying to win their first conference girls title since 2014. Their only other Conference Indiana victory came in 2008.
There are no ranked girls teams in this year’s field.
Last year, Columbus North’s boys finished third, and the girls were fourth. Bloomington South’s boys and Bloomington North’s girls are the defending champions.
Action gets underway with field events at 5:30 p.m. Friday. Running events are scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
