SEYMOUR — A motorcyclist faces a felony charge of resisting law enforcement after fleeing at a high rate of speed, police report.
Erick Omar Rodriguez-Vazquez, 28, of Columbus was arrested on that Level 6 felony charge along with Class C misdemeanor charges of operating a vehicle while never having received a driver’s license and reckless driving, according to a news release from Jackson County Sheriff’s Department Officer Brad Barker.
Around 7:30 p.m. Saturday, police were called to the Pebble Brooke subdivision south of Seymour off of U.S. 31 after a report of several motorcycles racing up and down the streets.
Upon arriving in the area, Barker, Officer Zach Elliott and Reserve Officer Eric Browalski observed two motorcycles traveling north on U.S. 31 at a high rate of speed, according to the news release.
Barker said he turned around and activated his emergency lights and sirens. One of the motorcycles sped away traveling north, while the other motorcycle turned into the subdivision. Barker then notified dispatch that he was in a pursuit with a motorcycle.
As the motorcycle approached the junction of U.S. 31 and U.S. 50, he said it turned east on U.S. 50 and quickly accelerated, reaching speeds in excess of 100 mph.
The motorcycle eventually came to a stop in the 12000 block of East U.S. 50, and the driver, identified as Rodriguez-Vazquez, and a female passenger were detained.
Rodriguez-Vazquez also received citations for expired license plates, speeding, disregarding a traffic control device and failure to use a turn signal.
The woman was released from the scene.
Rodriguez-Vazquez was booked into the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown at 9:11 p.m. Saturday without bond.
Barker was assisted by the Seymour Police Department.
