Around Town – April 30

Orchids to …

• President Obama, who gave us a presidency we could be proud of, was respected around the world, worked to preserve and protect our planet for the future of our children and didn’t need an army of attorneys to defend his actions on a daily basis.

• Tom and Tammy Laine for constantly making your yard beautiful, from a neighbor.

• Dascal Bunch, for all he’s done for District 1 as a Columbus City Councilman, from a Ninth Street resident.

• the teens and tweens at First Presbyterian Church for an amazingly well done youth Sunday service.

• Kathy Campbell for all your help with the phones, from Pam and Pat.

Onions to …

• The school board that seems to prioritize the whims of the superintendent over the concerns of tax-paying and voting teachers.

• the letter writer extolling civic participation (voting for the future of our community) while all-too-conveniently overlooking the abject failure of one political party to field a candidate for the same office two election cycles in a row.

• the west-side neighbor who complained at the annual homeowners association meeting about “those people” who couldn’t possibly be members using the community beach.

• the school administrator who cannot make up his mind about whether technology is good or bad for young children and has wasted taxpayer dollars because of his inability to make a decision.

• the private school that doesn’t allow time for students to go to the bathroom between classes, doesn’t let them go when they ask, but then penalizes them when they have an accident in the classroom.

• the agency responsible for not including a sidewalk on the south side of National Road between Washington Street and Home Avenue.

• the agency that did not ensure the sidewalk on the north side of National Road between Washington Street and Central Avenue included a grassy area between the sidewalk and the street, because it is now a safety concern and weedy mess.

• those for not including a separate right-turn lane at the northwest corner of Washington Street and National Road.

• the president whose bad behavior on so many levels would get him fired from a private sector job within a week.

• shredding service on Earth Day at the recycling center, when the newspaper published that shredding would be done until 1 p.m., but it actually ended at 11 a.m.

• people who move into a neighborhood and make it worse.

• the city official who doesn’t walk the talk.

• the Indiana Legislature for taking tax money away from schools but giving money to the Pacers so they will stay in town for 25 more years.

• family members who always gang together and bully and make other people uncomfortable.
