East sweeps Jennings

NORTH VERNON — Columbus North won all three singles matches in straight sets and took both doubles matches on third-set super-tiebereakers to post a 5-0 win at Jennings County in the Hooiser Hills Conference Tournament fifth-place match.

Kathryn Hodzen blanked Ellie Hearne at No. 1 singles, and Megna Chari beat Reagan Brown at No. 2 singles by 6-0, 6-0 scores for the Olympians (11-6). Ayano Nomura (CE) downed Carmen Kopitzke 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3 singles.

East’s Louna Prince and Cristina Marco topped Callie Wilder and Liz Ertel 7-5, 2-6, (10-8) at No. 1 doubles. Catherine Millwood and Emie Kizer edged Courtney Lykins and Abigail DeCamp 6-3, 4-6, (16-14) at No. 2 doubles.

The Panthers fell to 9-6.

Spartans edge Jets

HOPE — Hauser won both doubles matches, but Southwestern (Shelby) swept the singles matches to pull out a 3-2 Mid-Hoosier Conference win.

Carly Archer and Maddy Archer won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles for the Jets (6-6). Brooke Hopkins and Aunaka Wasil prevailed 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.

Hasuer’s Abby Johnson fell to Jenna Kuntz 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, Melanie Taylor lost to Abby Sweet 7-5, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and Andie Clark fell to Hailey Bowman 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.

Arrows blank Eagles

SULLIVAN — Sullivan won three matches in straight sets in a 5-0 win against Brown County.

Baelyn Koester fell to Abbie Pirtle 6-7 (6), 6-4, (10-4) at No. 1 singles, Meg Smith lost to Peyton Sisil 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and Claire Dannelley fell to Annie Smith 6-3, 7-5 at No. 3 singles for the Eagles (3-16).

Brown County’s Olivia Baughman and Cassidy Davis lost to Brooke Lueking and Courtney Lueking 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles. Hannah Asher and Grace Baughman fell to Sydney Greggs and Lexie Baker 7-6 (3), 4-6, (10-9) at No. 2 doubles.

BASEBALL

Jets no-hit Cougars

HOPE — Jacob Luken threw a no-hitter to lead Hauser to a 20-0, five-inning win against South Decatur in the second game of a Mid-Hoosier Conference doubleheader.

Trey Johnson went 3 for 5 with a double, and Kobe Meahl went 2 for 3 in the second game for the Jets (12-4, 9-0). Sean Miller had a home run and three RBIs; and Jackson Paradise, Will Trotter, Luken, Parker Eickbush and Aaron Mee all added two RBIs

Hauser won the opener 12-2 in five innings behind a three-hitter from Mee. Paradise went 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs, Miller and Luken each went 2 for 3 with a double, Trotter went 2 for 3 and Kameron Lawson had three RBIs.

The Cougars fell to 5-10 overall and 3-7 in the MHC.

SOFTBALL

Braves oust Lancers

TRAFALGAR — Indian Creek scored 13 times in the first inning and went on to hand Edinburgh a 16-3, five-inning loss in the opening round of the Johnson County Tournament.

The Lancers fell to 11-10.
