Official week highlights correctional officers

The first week in May is National Correctional Officers Week, which President Ronald Reagan designated with a proclamation on May 5, 1984.

“The importance of our corrections staff cannot be overstated”, said Bartholomew County Sheriff Matthew A. Myers, adding that it’s a difficult job that is less publicly visible.

The correctional staff at the Bartholomew County Jail, Myers said, make sure:

  • Inmates housed in the Bartholomew County Jail are treated respectfully
  • Get to court on time for appearances
  • Get to see loved ones and counsel during visits
