NORTH VERNON — Because of a computer malfunction, only 14 of the 16 events in Friday night’s Hoosier Hills Conference boys track and field meet were calculated prior to The Republic press time.
Columbus East likely will finish in third place. Jennings County is tied for fifth place with a 39.
Floyd Central, with 129 points, was declared the champion. The Highlanders are far clear of runner-up New Albany, which has 88.
The Panthers had a first-place finish from Carter Leak in the 3,200 meters with a time of 9 minutes, 48.23 seconds. Jennings’ 4×800 relay team of Jason Gasper, Alex Hendrix, A.J. Seiner and Lane Elsner finished third in 8:27.70.

East’s Cody Horner finished second in the 100 in 11.30. Third place finishers for the Olympians included Crase Bergman in the 200 in 24.32 and the long jump at 21 feet, 1/4-inch and Tyler Settle, Elliot Koopman, Lance Greiwe, Horner in the 4×100 relay in 44.68.
“We just wanted to go out and compete tonight, and that’s what they tried to do,” East coach Scott Pherson said.
The high jump and the 110 hurdles are the events that had not been scored.
