Charles Taylor Ross, 100, of Columbus, passed from this life at 1:40 p.m. Sunday, May 12, 2019 at Four Seasons Health Care Center. Taylor was born December 12, 1918, in Columbus, the son of Charles and Georgia Aiken Ross.

He grew up in the Hope/St.Louis Crossing area. After high school he helped his Uncle Bill Aiken with farming and also worked at Noblitt-Sparks in Columbus. On December 8th, 1941, he enlisted in the Navy and proudly served aboard the USS Nassau.

After the war Taylor settled down in Hope and farmed with his uncle. There he met the love of his life, Theresa and they were married on October 10, 1953. Taylor began working at Cummins Engine Company in 1955.

He was given the opportunity to transfer to Seattle, WA and so with three children in tow, he moved to the Seattle area in 1961 and became a Field Service Representative with Cummins. He was often on the road, traveling to Alaska and the Northwest area.

After 6 years on the west coast he moved back to Indiana and continued to work at Cummins until his retirement in 1980 after 30 years of service. During his retirement years he again helped his uncle with farming and also forged an interest in genealogy.

He loved keeping busy and had many home improvement activities going as well as playing a little golf. He always enjoyed a cup of coffee and donuts with retired buddies from Cummins and loved to talk about his childhood and his time in the Navy.

He had an amazing memory and was a great storyteller. Taylor was a member of First Christian Church, Hope American Legion Post #229, Hope Masonic Lodge No. 150 and the Scottish Rite Taylor’s. Wife, Theresa, proceeded him death on July 19th, 2017.

Survivors include his children, Jean (Chuck) Ozols of Columbus, Judy (Don) Linn of Fort Wayne, Betsy(Tracy) Galvin of Chicago and Andy (Nancy) Ross of Carmel, CA. Grandchildren include, Rebecca Ozols, Rachel Ozols, Jennie (Nick) Griswold, Joe Linn, Abby Linn, Taylor Galvin, Alex Galvin and Mary Li Ross; great grandchildren, Carli, Sadie and Ellie Griswold. He was also proceeded in death by his parents, and his brothers Louis Ross, Robert Ross and his sisters, Mary Meier, Ruth Franz and Martha Robinette.

The funeral will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 25, 2019 at Barkes, Weaver and Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Tyler Tolbert officiating. Family and friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, May 24, 2019 and 9:00 a.m. to time of service. Burial will be at Flat Rock Baptist Cemetery with military honors presented by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Charles T. And Theresa A. Ross Bartholomew County Historical Society through the Heritage fund in Bartholomew County or Hope American Legion Post #229.
