Swimmer wins three events in Duel In the Pool

Club Olympia’s Brady Beyer won three events for Team Indiana last weekend at the Inaugural Duel In the Pool, pitting top age group swimmers ages 11 to 16 from Indiana and Illinois against each other at IUPUI’s Indiana University Natatorium.

Beyer won the 13-14-year-old Boys 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke and 400 individual medley. His times in those events currently rank him third in the nation for 13-14 boys in both breaststroke events and seventh in the nation in the 400 IM.

Beyer also finished fourth in the 200 IM and fifth in the 200 butterfly. All five of his swims were personal-best times.

Beyer also swam the breaststroke leg on Team Indiana’s winning 200 medley relay teams. Out of 72 swimmers on Team Indiana, Beyer was the fifth-highest scorer with 21 points.

Nalanie Cortez placed second in the 13-14 Girls 200 freestyle and 200 butterfly, fourth in the 100 freestyle and 400 freestyle races and fifth in the 100 butterfly. Cortez also was the second fastest swimmer on Team Indiana’s A 200 freestyle relay team, which placed second to Team Illinois’ A Relay.

Cortez’s times in all five of her individual events rank her in the top 50 in the nation for 14-year-old girls. She scored 13 points, which tied two others from Team Indiana for the highest score by 13-14 girls on the team.
