BLOOMINGTON — Columbus North didn’t take long to put away Bloomington South, dropping only five total games to run away with a 5-0 win in Tuesday’s regional semifinal at Bloomington South.
The co-No. 8-ranked Bull Dogs face Seymour in today’s regional final. The Owls were 3-2 winners over Greensburg in the other semifinal match.
North’s Ashlie Wilson won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles over Maya Mills. At No. 2 singles, Eva Chevalier won against Natalie Hall 6-1, 6-1. At No. 3 singles, Shweta Srinivasan won over Doyenni Park 6-0, 6-0.
At No. 1 doubles, Ali Bergman and Jaline Tay won 6-1, 6-0 against Tali Blackwell and Quincey Rink. At No. 2 doubles, Servane Cloteaux and Tiffany Fu topped Steffi Marvin and Elenna Kim 6-0, 6-1.
“We played against (Bloomington South) earlier in the year with a different lineup, and same goes for them, too. Overall, I think the team really came out and played very well right off the bat in every position,” North coach Kendal Hammel said. “I thought we were hitting really well and taking the game to our opponents. With the wind, it didn’t affect anybody. I was really pleased with how everyone played today.”
The Bull Dogs now focus their attention to Seymour, and North will be the heavy favorite going into the regional final.
“We still have to take care of business. We knew what we were playing against for the most part tonight,” Hammel said. “We’re still looking ahead, but we know we still have to take care of business in that situation. The girls really played well, and hopefully they can carry it over into the next match and get us to the competition that will be ahead of us.”
