Juneteenth event June 15 downtown

The Bartholomew County Area Chapter of the NAACP has announced that its annual celebration of Juneteenth is slated from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. June 15 on Fourth Street, between Washington and Franklin streets, in downtown Columbus. The local gathering with food and more serves as a reminder of slavery’s official end. The day was first celebrated in 1865, when Texas became the final Confederate state to free its slaves, three years after the Emancipation Proclamation.
