Around Town – May 24

Orchids to …

• the Democrats in Congress who are trying to ensure that we retain our system of checks and balances against stonewalling from this administration.

• Nessa in the photo department at Walmart for going above and beyond helping the mom with graduation announcements.

• Democrats for continuing to demand the truth.

• St. Francis Hospital, sheriffs, state police and Edinburgh police and my friends for sticking with me through thick and thin and praying for me, and for another chance with my husband, from Stephanie B.

• Travis at Gutter Helmet for a job well done, from Theresa.

• Wells Fargo and TD Bank, which have already given Trump-related financial documents to Congress, complying with subpoenas issued by the House Financial Services Committee.

• Hartsville Church of Christ for their lovely Good Shepherd Tea.

• the person who returned my billfold, from Dave on Terrace Lake Road.

Onions to …

• to the driver of the car turning left onto U.S. 31 without using a signal, and to the driver of the white pickup behind me who decided I didn’t pull out fast enough and went around me (on my left) when I was also turning left with my signal on.

• those who don’t realize not having a mayoral candidate was intentional.

• those who were so excited about their tax cut windfall but don’t consider that tariffs, increased gas prices and the negative impact of retirement accounts have also negatively impacted the tax savings.

• the dealmaker-in-chief who walked out on a negotiation regarding badly needed infrastructure projects.

• Republicans who will fall on the sword of their leader no matter what he asserts.

• people who claim Medicare for people 65 and over is not socialism, because the proposed Medicare for all would be socialism.

• neighbors who live in a trailer court who think it’s OK to take flowers from someone’s yard without permission until they’re nearly all gone.

• the president for claiming he doesn’t do cover-ups when he pays $130,000 to a porn star and more money to a Playboy bunny to keep quiet about his affair.

• Republicans who seem to want to remain blind to the possibility of the president conducting illegal activities and bashing Democrats for wanting to protect our country from foreign influence.

• food handlers that do not properly wash their hands, thus infecting unsuspecting patrons, because they should not be able to be employed at a restaurant again.

• the president for refusing to negotiate with Democrats about infrastructure improvements after he walked out of a planned meeting.

• the organization and city that have not fallen in love with a theater like they have other white elephant and contaminated properties.

• the state for sending out voter registration verifications to voters who have just verified their addresses, because that’s a waste of money.
