Two accused of transporting heroin, fentanyl into county to sell

Staff Reports

Bartholomew County’s Joint Narcotics Enforcement Team has arrested two Columbus residents accused of bringing fentanyl and heroin here from out of state and selling it locally.

After a lengthy investigation, JNET narcotics detectives determined that Chandler B. Goddard, 20, of 5151 Regency Drive, and Bradley A. McRae, 23, of 4550 Woodcrest Drive, made multiple trips to Cincinnati, where they purchased heroin and fentanyl, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

The pair then brought the drugs back to Bartholomew County where it was sold, Harris said.

JNET detectives secured arrest warrants for Goddard and McRae on charges of dealing in a narcotic drug, and their vehicle was stopped near Hartsville Friday afternoon by the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department and Columbus Police Department Intelligence Led Policing Unit.

A Bartholomew County Sheriff’s canine later alerted officers to the odor of narcotics inside the vehicle, which was being driven by McRae, Harris said. During a vehicle search, officers found fentanyl inside Goddard’s purse.

JNET investigators obtained a search warrant after transporting Goddard to Columbus Regional Hospital. After the warrant was served, hospital medical staff recovered a quarter ounce of fentanyl that Goddard had concealed in a body cavity, Harris said.

Goddard and McRae were taken to the Bartholomew County Jail.

Goddard is being held on preliminary charges of dealing in a narcotic drug, possession of a narcotic drug, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, and a warrant for dealing in a narcotic drug. She was being held in jail in lieu of $113,500 bond, jail officials said.

McRae is being held on preliminary charges of dealing in a narcotic drug, driving while suspended with a prior conviction and a warrant for dealing in a narcotic drug. He was being held in jail in lieu of $120,000 bond, jail officials said.

The Joint Narcotics Enforcement Team is a combined unit of the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department, the Columbus Police Department and the Bartholomew County Prosecutor’s Office. JNET proactively targets the manufacturing and abuse of dangerous drugs in Columbus and Bartholomew County.
