Services and studies

Dayspring Church Apostolic — Worship begins at 11:15 a.m. at the church, 2127 Doctors Park Drive, Columbus.

On Sunday, the church will be inspired by the message “Reaping All Good Things,” which is taken from Galatians 6:6-10, where Paul shares, “…let us do good unto all men …”

Every visitor will receive a free gift.

The Sunday education session starts at 10 a.m. and covers “Abram Called by God,” as shared in Genesis 11:31-12:9.

Bible study will be at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and takes a deep dive on the message from the previous Sunday.

Prayer of Power starts at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday and is preceded with requests and instructions on prayer. The Celebrate Recovery session starts at 6:30 p.m. for about an hour.

Ignite is the Youth Growth Session that happens every third Friday.

Fairlawn Presbyterian — Worship begins at 9:30 a.m. led by the Rev. Elizabeth Kirkpatrick, followed by fellowship time.

Child care is available during Sunday services and second hour studies.

A men’s breakfast is 7:30 a.m. the second Saturday of every month for men of all ages.

The Last Friday’s Bluegrass event is 7:30 p.m. the last Friday of every month. All are welcome to bring an instrument and play along or simply enjoy the music.

Collections and donations for Love Chapel are peanut butter and jelly in May and canned fruit in June.

First Presbyterian — At 9:30 a.m. on Sunday the sermon will be titled “In and out of the water,” where the church will be focusing on the other sacrament, baptism, because of the passage reflected on, Romans 6:1-14.

The church is located at 512 Seventh St., Columbus.

Infant and toddler care is available from 9:15 a.m. to noon Sunday.

The men’s and women’s support groups meet at 7 a.m. Fridays, and a second men’s support group of working-age men meets every Monday at 6:15 a.m.

People in need of a meal are invited to Hot Meals, offered 5 p.m. Friday, with entry through the glass doors on Franklin Street.

The church is LGBTQ-friendly, open and affirming to all.

First United Methodist — On Sunday, at the 9 a.m. Traditional Service and the 11 a.m. Celebration Service, Rev. Howard Boles will deliver the message, “When We Sing,” at the church, 618 Eighth St.. The scripture will be John 17:20-22.

Sunday School for all ages begins at 10:10 a.m. Child care is available during both services. It will also be Music Sunday, so during the 9 a.m. service there will be special music featuring some traditional favorites and some new arrangements that will hopefully be inspirational to your worship.

Flintwood Wesleyan — The 9 and 11 a.m. Sunday service will be led by the Rev. Wes Jones, senior pastor, at the church, 5300 E. 25th St., Columbus.

On Thursdays, Cub Scout Pack 588 will meet when events are scheduled and Boy Scout Troop 588 will meet at 7 p.m.

The Prayer Team meets at 8 a.m. Sunday school classes meet in their regular rooms no regular evening activities.

Celebrate Recovery begins with a meal at 5:25 p.m. in the Friendship Center and the meeting starts at 6 p.m. in the main Sanctuary. The public is invited to attend.

“In The Beginning…” a small group Bible study will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday in The Friendship Center. It is studying the Book of Genesis.

Wednesday activities begin with supper at 5:30 p.m. followed by GLOW at 6:15 p.m. This is the last GLOW until school resumes in the fall. The Prayer Team meets at 6:15 p.m. in The Prayer Room. Youth meets at 6:30 p.m. and adult Bible study meets at 7 p.m. in the Sanctuary.

Garden City Church of Christ — Pastor Brian Gilroy is the lead minister and Pastor Brian Graves is the family life minister.

Light of Life Lutheran — Bible study will be 4 p.m. June 9 at The Commons, 300 Washington St., Columbus. It will take place in the Xenia Miller Conference Room located on the second floor.

The study topic will be: “How Did Jesus Save the World?” The Bible study will be led by Pastor Scott Miller from Light of Life Lutheran Church. Light of Life is a confessional Lutheran Church that holds strongly to every word of the Bible as the word of God. The study will last about an hour. Study materials will be provided. All are welcome.

Memorial Baptist — Worship begins at 9:30 a.m., at 2320 Seventh St., Columbus.

Sunday school classes for all ages follow at 10:45 a.m. There are programs for both children and youth as well.

Old Union United Church of Christ — Sunday service is at 10 a.m.; it is the seventh Sunday of Easter. Sunday school is at 9 a.m., followed by fellowship at 9:40 a.m. Pastor Kirby Rupp will deliver the message, “A Powerful Prayer,” with readings from Acts 16:16-34; Psalm 97; and John 17:20-26.

Wednesday Bible study is on a summer hiatus.

Petersville United Methodist — At the 9 a.m. worship service on Sunday, the Rev. Stormy Scherer-Berry will deliver the message “Freedom to Open.” Scriptures will be given from Ephesians 1:17-18, at the church, located at 2781 N. County Road 500E, Columbus. Communion will be served, and Teresa Covert will give the children’s sermon.

A time of fellowship will follow the service.

The study groups are on a summer break; the Sit and Stitch also is on hiatus for the summer months. The choir will not be meeting again until late August.

On Pentecost Sunday, June 9, an outdoor worship service will be held on the east side of the church. Attendees are encouraged to wear the color red and bring lawn chairs.

St. Paul Lutheran — At the 8 and 10:45 a.m. services, the Celebration of Ascension will be held. Pastor Doug Bauman will be delivering the message, “Everyone His Witness,” based on Acts 1:1-11, at the church, 6045 E. State St., Columbus. Members who are recent high school and college graduates will be recognized and included in prayer.

Unitarian Universalist Church of Christ — At the 10 a.m. mass on Sunday, the Rev. Nic Cable and Nancy Olson will give the message, “Lifespan Sunday.”

As the program year draws to a close, the church celebrates the learning everyone shared in this year and reaffirm the commitment to the shared growth as individuals and as a congregation.

Westside Community — At 10 a.m. Sunday, Pastor Robert Vester will lead the service at the church, at State Road 46 West and Tipton Lakes Boulevard, Columbus. He is starting a new service series titled “Broken — Picking Up and Moving Forward.” The children’s program for children of all ages through sixth grade begins at the same time.

WCC will have both a men’s and women’s study this summer. Studies meet for six weeks from 7 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. starting June 26. The men will be working through “Irresistible,” and the women will be studying “You’ll Get Through This: Hope and Help for Turbulent Times.”

Events

Jennings Church of Christ — Homecoming Sunday, with the theme “Family Reunion,” will celebrate 35 years of ministry June 9 at the church, 1200 N. Madison Ave. in North Vernon. The congregation will have a combined Sunday School at 9:30 a.m., preservice music at 10:05 a.m., homecoming service at 10:15 a.m., group photo at 11:45 a.m., fellowship dinner at noon, a homecoming hymn sing at 1 p.m. Information: 812-343-0179.

East Columbus Christian — The church presents Fuel on Wednesday nights which includes a free meal and Bible study from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

It is located at 3170 Indiana Ave., next to Columbus East High School.

Flintwood Wesleyan — The open market will start at 8:30 a.m. today. The market will be the first Saturday of each month June through October. Local artisans will be set up plus food booths and produce booths. If you are interested in renting a booth contact Kim Rutan in the church office.

Kids Bible Camp will be held at the district campground in Orleans, June 11-14.

Revolution, which is the church’s teen camp, will be held at our district campground in Orleans, June 17-21.

VBS will be held June 24-27.

First United Methodist — First United Methodist Church will be partnering with First Presbyterian Church to offer a free VBS program entitled “Who is My Neighbor? Learning to Love Like Jesus.” It will be 5:30 to 8 p.m. June 24 to 27 at First Presbyterian Church, 512 Seventh St.

Garden City Church of Christ — The Incredible Race Vacation Bible school for children age 4 through sixth grade is set for June 9-16. Sessions will be 6-8:30 p.m. and will include dinner.

Kids will participate in activities to uncover clues and attempt challenges as they fill score cards. Messages will include the concept that all people all part of the same race — the human race — and all part of the same family from Adam and Eve.
