For the third year in a row a Club Olympia swimmer was invited to the Central Zone Select Camp held at the University of Cincinnati. This year, Brady Beyer was selected, and he attended the camp May 23 to 26.
USA Swimming sponsors four Zone Select Camps in an effort to identify the emerging young athletes in each zone and offer them a unique motivational and educational experience. The Zone Select Camps are viewed by USA Swimming as an integral step for athletes to move from the local and zone level onto to the national scene.
Twenty-eight male and 28 female athletes are selected in each of the four zones. Selected girls must be ages 12-13 at the time of performance. Selected boys must be ages 13-14 at the time of performance. For the May 2019 camps, times must have been achieved between Sept. 1, 2017 and Aug. 31, 2018.
Fourteen athletes of each gender are selected based on 2018 Long Course Meters IMX point scores according to the following: seven girls age 12 and seven boys age 13; seven girls age 13 and seven boys age 14.

Then, the fastest swimmer in each zone in each Long Course Meters Olympic event (including the 800 freestyle and 1,500 freestyle for both genders) is invited for a total of 14 additional male and 14 additional female athletes. If a swimmer was already selected based on IMX score, the next-fastest swimmer is selected in that event. Long course times only were considered.
Beyer was first in Indiana and seventh in the Central Zone. He also was the fastest 13-year-old in the 200-meter breaststroke in the Central Zone, which consists of 15 local swimming committees from 14 states. Beyer currently is ranked third in the nation for 13-14-year-olds in the 200 breaststroke and fourth in the 100 breaststroke.
The camp this year focused on providing quality training opportunities with some of the best 12-15-year-olds in the Central Zone in a unique, motivating environment and athlete education that will help enhance training and performance.
