We transferred our daughter Ashleigh to Indianapolis Digital Learning School from traditional brick and mortar schools due to medical needs. Ashleigh has epilepsy and is a dedicated student-athlete. These two factors hindered Ashleigh’s consistent attendance, creating learning challenges.
Ashleigh has been a competitive cheerleader and coach for several years. Her leadership has qualified her for the first-ever Athlete Advisory Council for USASF. This honor and responsibility is not lost on Ashleigh. She is meeting with national organizations to establish educational materials, form effective lines of communication and promote the safety of all athletes. Competitive cheer, like other sports, needs to act quickly to protect its athletes from sexual predators, social media bullying and the manipulation of athletes by others. As a victim of bullying in brick and mortar school, Ashleigh is passionate about these endeavors.
Ashleigh has already enrolled with INDLS for her senior year and will graduate with college credits through dual enrollment at Ivy Tech. Her customized scheduled through INDLS has allowed her to job shadow an occupational therapist at St. Vincent Hospital, an opportunity coordinated with her INDLS guidance counselor. Ashleigh is actively seeking volunteer roles and internships in this field to prepare her for this career path.
We want our legislators to protect online school options. INDLS has allowed Ashleigh the ability to excel academically, all while pursuing her athletic passion, traveling for competitive cheer and manage her many health concerns.
