Services and studies

Dayspring Church Apostolic — Worship begins at 11:15 a.m. at the church, 2127 Doctors Park Drive, Columbus.

On Sunday, the church will be inspired by the message “Dividing Gifts To A Unified Body,” which is taken from 1 Corinthians 12:11, where, Where Paul shares, “…dividing to every man…”

Every visitor will receive a free gift.

The Sunday education session starts at 10 a.m. and covers “Dwelling in Canaan,” as shared in Genesis 13:10-18.

Bible study will be at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and takes a deep dive on the message from the previous Sunday.

Prayer of Power starts at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday and is preceded with requests and instructions on prayer. The Celebrate Recovery session starts at 6:30 p.m. for about an hour.

Ignite is the Youth Growth Session that happens every third Friday.

Fairlawn Presbyterian — Worship begins at 9:30 a.m. led by the Rev. Elizabeth Kirkpatrick, followed by fellowship time.

Child care is available during Sunday services and second hour studies.

A men’s breakfast is 7:30 a.m. the second Saturday of every month for men of all ages.

The Last Friday’s Bluegrass event is 7:30 p.m. the last Friday of every month. All are welcome to bring an instrument and play along or simply enjoy the music.

Collections and donations for Love Chapel are canned fruit in June.

First Presbyterian — At 9:30 a.m. during Pentecost Sunday the church will welcome DeAmon Harges as the guest preacher, who will reflect on Acts 2:1-4 and Luke 19:40 for a sermon titled “When the Stones Cry Out.” The church will commission the participants of the two mission trips and celebrate the sacrament of baptism for two children in the church.

Infant and toddler care is available from 9:15 a.m. to noon Sunday.

The men’s and women’s support groups meet at 7 a.m. Fridays, and a second men’s support group of working-age men meets every Monday at 6:15 a.m.

People in need of a meal are invited to Hot Meals, offered 5 p.m. Friday, with entry through the glass doors on Franklin Street.

The church is LGBTQ-friendly, open and affirming to all.

First United Methodist — On Sunday, at the 9 a.m. Traditional Service and the 11 a.m. Celebration Service, the Rev. Howard Boles will deliver the message, “The Language of the Spirit,” at the church, 618 Eighth St., Columbus. The scripture will be Acts 2:1-21.

Flintwood Wesleyan — The 9 and 11 a.m. Sunday service will be led by the Rev. Wes Jones, senior pastor, at the church, 5300 E. 25th St., Columbus.

On Thursdays, Cub Scout Pack 588 will meet when events are scheduled and Boy Scout Troop 588 will meet at 7 p.m.

The Prayer Team meets at 8 a.m. Sunday school classes meet in their regular rooms. Choir practice is at 5 p.m.

Celebrate Recovery begins with a meal at 5:25 p.m. in the Friendship Center and the meeting starts at 6 p.m. in the main sanctuary. The public is invited to attend.

“In The Beginning…”, a small group Bible study, will not meet for the summer but will resume at a date to be determined in the fall.

Wednesday activities begin with a Prayer Team meeting at 6 p.m. in The Prayer Room. Bible study is at 6:30 p.m. in The Friendship Center. Parents can still attend bible study even though GLOW has ended. There will be activities for children pre-school through fourth grade in the basement of Curry Hall.

The SAM luncheon is from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday in The Friendship Center.

Garden City Church of Christ — Pastor Brian Gilroy is the lead minister and Pastor Brian Graves is the family life minister.

Grace Lutheran — At the 8 and 10:30 a.m. services the Rev. John Armstrong will be will bringing the message based on John 14:23-31. The 2019 confirmands will be confirmed at the 10:30 a.m. service. Children’s Sunday school starts at 9:30 a.m.

Light of Life Lutheran — Bible study will be 4 p.m. June 9 at The Commons, 300 Washington St., Columbus. It will take place in the Xenia Miller Conference Room located on the second floor.

The study topic will be: “How Did Jesus Save the World?” The Bible study will be led by Pastor Scott Miller from Light of Life Lutheran Church. Light of Life is a confessional Lutheran Church that holds strongly to every word of the Bible as the word of God. The study will last about an hour. Study materials will be provided. All are welcome.

Memorial Baptist — Worship begins at 9:30 a.m., at 2320 Seventh St., Columbus.

Sunday school classes for all ages follow at 10:45 a.m. There are programs for both children and youth as well.

Old Union United Church of Christ — Sunday service is at 10 a.m.; it is Pentecost Sunday. Sunday school is at 9 a.m., followed by fellowship at 9:40 a.m. Pastor Kirby Rupp will deliver the message, “Claim the Promise,” with readings from Acts 2:1-21; Romans 8:14-17; and John 14:8-17.

Wednesday Bible study is on a summer hiatus.

Petersville United Methodist — The 10 a.m. Pentecost service on Sunday will be held outdoors on the east side of the church building, those attending should bring lawn chairs and are encouraged to wear the color red. The Rev. Stormy Scherer-Berry will deliver the message “Freedom to Filled.” Scriptures will be given from Acts 2:3-4, at the church, located at 2781 N. County Road 500E, Columbus. Teresa Covert will give the children’s sermon.

A time of fellowship will follow the service.

The study groups are on a summer break; the Sit and Stitch also is on hiatus for the summer months. The choir will not be meeting again until late August.

The Prayer Time session, led by Barb Hedrick at the church, will continue meeting at 10 a.m. each Thursday.

St. Paul Lutheran — At the 8 and 10:45 a.m. services, the Celebration of Pentecost will be held at the church. Pastor Doug Bauman will be delivering the message, “From Chaos and Confusion to Confidence and Certainty,” based on Genesis 11:1-9, at the church, 6045 E. State St., Columbus.

Vicar Daniel Fickenscher will be installed at the 8 a.m. service in the church and also at the 10:45 a.m. Spanish service in the Chapel. Vicar Fickenscher served two-and-a-half years as a missionary in the Dominican Republic prior to returning to Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, where his wife Taylor is enrolled in the deaconess program. A pitch-in meal will follow in the Education Building at noon for Spanish service attendees.

Unitarian Universalist Church of Christ — At the 10 a.m. mass on Sunday, the Rev. Nic Cable will give the message, “The Courage of Yes and the Necessity of No,” at the church, 7850 W. Goeller Blvd, Columbus.

The annual Flower Communion service celebrates the courage of Unitarian Universalism in the struggle for justice and inclusion for all. Grounded in the story of the Rev. Norbert Čapek and his resistance to Nazis in the 20th century, the church will consider the legacy of hope and courage as a congregation and as leaders in this world. Be sure to bring a flower with to share in the service.

Westside Community — At 10 a.m. Sunday, Pastor Robert Vester will lead the service at the church, at State Road 46 West and Tipton Lakes Boulevard, Columbus. He is continuing the service series titled “Broken — Picking Up and Moving Forward.” The children’s program for children of all ages through sixth grade begins at the same time.

WCC will host a Spring Steak Out at 5:30 p.m. on June 19 with Michael Fodroci as our featured speaker. Mike worked for NASA as the payload safety lead and in NASA’s International Space Station Safety and Mission Assurance Division.

WCC will have both a men’s and women’s study this summer. Studies meet for six weeks from 7 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. starting June 26. The men will be working through “Irresistible,” and the women will be studying “You’ll Get Through This: Hope and Help for Turbulent Times.”

Events

Jennings Church of Christ — Homecoming Sunday, with the theme “Family Reunion,” will celebrate 35 years of ministry Sunday at the church, 1200 N. Madison Ave. in North Vernon. The congregation will have a combined Sunday School at 9:30 a.m., pre-service music at 10:05 a.m., homecoming service at 10:15 a.m., group photo at 11:45 a.m., fellowship dinner at noon, a homecoming hymn sing at 1 p.m.

East Columbus Christian — The church presents Fuel on Wednesday nights, which includes a free meal and Bible study from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

It is located at 3170 Indiana Ave., next to Columbus East High School.

Flintwood Wesleyan — The open market will be the first Saturday of each month June through October from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Local artisans will be set up plus food booths and produce booths. If you are interested in renting a booth contact Kim Rutan in the church office.

Kids Bible Camp will be held at the district campground in Orleans, Tuesday through Friday.

Revolution, which is the church’s teen camp, will be held at the district campground in Orleans, June 17-21.

VBS will be held June 24-27. The theme is “The Greatest Show in Heaven and Earth.” Registration starts at 8:45 a.m. each morning in the foyer of the church or you can pre-register online. Deadline for online registration is June 21. The “Big Top” opens at 9:30 a.m. and goes till noon.

First United Methodist — First United Methodist Church will be partnering with First Presbyterian Church to offer a free VBS program entitled “Who is My Neighbor? Learning to Love Like Jesus.” It will be 5:30 to 8 p.m. June 24 to 27 at First Presbyterian Church, 512 Seventh St.

The First United Methodist Church youth group will have several upcoming “Dine to Donate” events at local restaurants: June 15, from 4-8 p.m. at Chipotle; June 30, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Panera; and July 2, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Chicago’s Pizza. Just tell the server/cashier that you are there for the FUMC Dine to Donate event and a portion of your meal will go towards the fundraiser for their trip to Alive this summer.

Garden City Church of Christ — The Incredible Race Vacation Bible school for children age 4 through sixth grade is set for June 9-13. Sessions will be 6-8:30 p.m. and will include dinner.

Kids will participate in activities to uncover clues and attempt challenges as they fill score cards. Messages will include the concept that all people are part of the same race — the human race — and all part of the same family from Adam and Eve.

Healing Waters Ministries — On Friday, the Farm Hands will be performing at the church, 2330 Midway St., Columbus.

Heritage Baptist Church — There will be Financial Peace University classes beginning at 6 p.m. Sunday. The church is located at 1075 2nd St., Columbus.
