Foster children receive books through conference donations

INDIANAPOLIS — More than 185 children in foster care in Indiana will receive backpacks of books from donations at the annual Indiana Child Support Conference in Indianapolis.

Each year, the conference, organized by the Indiana Prosecuting Attorneys Council, supports a local service project to benefit Hoosier youth. This year, more than 600 people at the conference brought donations for Books for Youth, a partnership between the Indiana Department of Child Services, Indianapolis Colts and Cargo Services Inc. The partnership provides age-appropriate reading material to Indiana foster youth.

The donation was accepted by Kristin Ballard, the wife of Colts General Manager Chris Ballard.

Books for Youth, founded in 2006, provides backpacks of 25 new and gently-used books to children in the foster care system. Since 2006, more than 8,750 backpacks have been distributed.
