Around Town – June 11

Orchids to …

• the First Baptist Church Worship Team for the wonderful experience of the chaos, color and surrounding of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.

• Mom, for giving me the solution to a problem that I’ve been struggling with.

• the retired Cummins employee who saw our broken trash cart, walked home to get tools, came back for the cart to fix and returned it in perfect condition, from Turning Point Domestic Violence Services’ grateful staff.

• the Bartholomew County Historical Society for a great homes tour.

• all the Democrats who are switching sides to keep America great and clean up the swamp.

• Charlie for the tow service on Saturday.

• Teresa Palmer, for going above and beyond for your customers at Centra Credit Union.

• Democrats for exposing their true colors of deceit, lying and corruption and trying to ruin the country.

• The Auto Zone men for their kindness and help with my Ford Escape on Saturday morning.

• Hunter Wart who raised $10,000 for his senior project to install a Safe Haven baby box at an Indiana fire station.

Onions to …

• city officials for spending more money on consultants for the ridiculous and unneeded riverfront project.

• those who allow the roadside grass and weeds to grow 3 to 4 feet tall and each year, mowing them less often and causing visibility and safety issues.

• those who think pouring many millions into a dump downtown somehow is the secret sauce to making Columbus attractive.

• whoever hired the company to work on the drainage issue in Skyview Estates, because workers have been unnecessarily rude, have torn up yards and sidewalks and worked after 10:30 p.m. in a neighborhood with many young children.

• those for the lack of curve signs at County Roads 850 and 890 south of Newbern, because they are very dangerous at night.

• the shopping center with newly planted tall grass bushes that are already blocking drivers’ vision, and need to be removed.

• the merge signs on 10th Street off of Central Avenue and Marr Road onto 10th Street that should be replaced with yield signs.

• the city for spending more money on consultants for the riverfront project while not fixing the city streets or funding affordable housing.

• the person ranting about Trump and spreading lies about him.

• state lawmakers for mandating new rules for teacher license renewal, requiring 15 hours of professional development related to workforce needs when they should focus on diversity and harassment training for themselves.

• well-meaning charities that continue to release balloons, which are terrible for our environment and deadly for wildlife.

• the columnist who can’t make heads or tails of “eggspert” advice.

• those for bad mail service in Edinburgh.

• city leaders for the condition of city streets, which are in very poor repair.

• those who are so inconsiderate of others with disabilities and treating customers like they are beneath you.

• the letter writer and his supporters who believe that making a list of unproven allegations and smears against President Trump is somehow profound political thinking.
