Edinburgh woman arrested after backpack dispute at library

Chasity N. Galbraith

An Edinburgh woman was arrested at the Bartholomew County Public Library following a dispute over a backpack.

Off-duty Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Deputy Andrew Dougan, who was working security at the library at 9 p.m. Monday, arrested Chasity Galbraith, 22, 13500 U.S. 31, Edinburgh,
after a male patron alleged she had stolen his backpack, deputies said.

During the investigation, Galbraith, who falsely identified herself twice, told Dougan that the backpack belonged to her.

Dougan had earlier observed the male enter the library wearing the backpack in question, deputies said.

Property missing from the backpack was located in a trash can and returned to the owner, deputies said.

While taking Galbraith into custody, she ran toward the exit, deputies said. Following a brief struggle, she was taken to the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of false informing and resisting law enforcement.

She was being held in jail in lieu of $8,500 bond, jail officials said.

Assisting at the scene were Deputy Dylan Prather, Deputy Jason Williams and Columbus Police Department officers.
