HOPE — Hope police arrested an Edinburgh man after he led them on a vehicle chase in and around the Hope area.
Officer Jason Tucker attempted to stop a black 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee at 3:47 p.m. Wednesday for an unsafe vehicle violation, said Hope Police Chief Matt Tallent.
When Tucker tried to stop the vehicle, the driver, later identified as Randy S. Colburn, 42, Edinburgh, refused to pull over, leading officers on a slow speed pursuit around Hope and the surrounding area, Tallent said.
The pursuit led to the back side of the Dodd farm where the suspect ran the Cherokee into a creek bank and then ran on foot, Tallent said. A Bartholomew County Sheriff’s deputy had a short foot pursuit with the suspect before apprehending him, Tallent said.
Colburn was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital for medical clearance and then to the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement, criminal mischief greater than $750 damage, driving as a habitual traffic violator and a Bartholomew County warrant, jail officials said.
Colburn was being held in the jail in lieu of $135,000 bond, jail officials said.
