Around Town – July 3

Orchids to …

• Caroline Hedrick, Kami Adams, and all those who sponsored, organized, volunteered or participated in the Columbus Young Professionals’ Amazing Race.

• the family and their friends who saved us when we had a dead battery and towed us from East Lake to the middle lake to watch the fireworks at Tipton Lakes on Friday — we appreciate it and we’ll pay it forward.

• the second family that took us from the middle lake to our dock Friday night at Tipton Lakes after the fireworks because it was greatly appreciated.

• Rhonda at Casey’s Food Mart for her kindness and concern in going beyond her line of duty when I got sick at the store.

• the awesome group of three people who sat next to my table at Arni’s on Monday around 6:30 p.m.; I wanted to thank you so much for paying for my meal.

• Jason at Tropical Smoothie for outstanding customer service, from a satisfied customer.

• Sam and Tony London Printing for the catalogs for Tammy; it was much appreciated.

• the health care system for partnering with the interstate project to obtain the necessary materials for their property, which would otherwise have ended up in a landfill.

• the body shop manager at Poynter for fixing the problem for free on my Escape, from Barbara Fisher.

• all those who speak truth to power.

• the new study which shows that the Russian social media trolls and bots may have helped raise Donald Trump’s popularity.

Onions to …

• the city’s ridiculous, extreme, invasive regulations about what you can and can’t do on your own private property, and wrongly assuming something is going on when it’s not, which is none of their business anyway.

• the local state office that made people wait more than 30 minutes to drop off papers and leave.

• the air-conditioning service company constantly rescheduling customer maintenance appointments at the last moment on the day of appointment to another day and sometimes another month.

• veggie burgers, soy dogs and fake meats: anyone seen the movie “Soylent Green?”

• the drive-in on 25th Street that needs to be either torn down or someone needs to keep it in good shape, because it looks horrible.

• the neighbor on the west side of town who thinks it’s OK to turn her two dogs loose to do their business on other neighbors’ property.

• the former city official for once again wasting taxpayer dollars on a personal vendetta.

• a president who is abolishing federal regulations to only benefit the rich and put the health of all Americans at risk.

• the administration for spending nearly $1 million to bring out U.S. Army tanks that could mess up the foundation of the Lincoln Memorial for the Fourth of July celebration that is supposed to be non-political.
