Orchids to …

• Mill Race Players for putting on a great show, with fantastic casting, appropriate costuming and putting on an all-around great play.

• the gentleman behind me at Petco who overheard me say I was stocking up for my third set of foster kittens (from Columbus Animal Care) and handed me money to pay for supplies.

• The Republic for publishing a Bartholomew County 4-H Fair supplement.

• all the volunteers who helped with the demolition derby this year, from the Kroot Corporation.

• Annette Hoover at Centra Credit Union for such great member service and for being so kind, from a very thankful member.

• the wonderful staff at the Little Clinic.

• Jim and Judy for taking me to the hospital on Wednesday to get X-rays taken, because it was appreciated, from Tom’s Judy.

• those who remember the preciousness of democracy.

• those of us who are leaving the Republican Party because of our party’s lax take on race, which is leading us down a dangerous path.

Onions to …

• Congress for inaction on extending the coal company excise tax, which was the primary means of funding the Black Lung Trust.

• the company that did nothing keep its employees safe during this excessive heat watch and warning.

• the alumni association for its questionable Hall of Fame selection process.

• the one-party-controlled county offices that will not publish elected officials’ email addresses in an attempt to dodge constituents and the expectations of transparency and access.

• those who claim Donald Trump is not dividing this country because all you have to do is look at our local Orchids and Onions.

• people that can’t see the subtle pictures and signs around them that it seems only to be racism if you’re white.

• those people who think everything that happens on the face of the earth is about racism, because it’s not.

• people who think they can come here illegally and take what they want, because they should follow the law.

• the city and county administrations for not having cooling centers in the city and county.

• political correctness and thin-skinned politicians.

• the president who is taking and ruining our democracy.

• state legislators for diverting tax dollars from schools and spending it on a field house.

• people who are still leaving their dogs out in this awful heat with hardly any shelter, tied under a tree by the railroad tracks.
