Consider fostering animals

Just as there is a need for foster parents for children, there is a need for foster families for animals.

Columbus Animal Care Services is seeking volunteer families to foster about a dozen cats and three or four dogs of various ages and situations.

These animals can make great pets for individuals and families. Serving as a foster family is a great opportunity to help a city department and animals that can bring joy and love to others. It’s something local residents should consider.

Screening neat idea

The ramp-up to this year’s Exhibit Columbus exhibition of temporary art works downtown includes an interesting new addition: a screening of five short films about the five Miller Prize-winning installations.

The screening is set for 6 p.m. July 25 at the Columbus Area Visitors Center, 506 Fifth St. It’s a neat way to promote the event and educate people about the cornerstone pieces of the exhibit, which runs from Aug. 23 (a day earlier than previously announced) through Dec. 1.

If the screening is received well, it should be something organizers consider doing again in the future.

Touching act

Columbus native and country musician Patrick Bowman, also known by his stage name Tilford Sellers, died tragically in an auto accident Jan. 27, 2018, before he could personally finish his latest record.

But thanks to the efforts of his bandmates and family, Bowman’s music lives on. After the discovery of vocal recordings by Bowman for the workings of an album, his bandmates consulted with the family about finishing the effort. Following notes Bowman had left for the arrangements of the songs, his bandmates produced two albums: one with the original recordings and one with added instruments by his bandmates.

Those efforts by Bowman’s bandmates, in consult with his parents, are truly touching — and appreciated.
