
COLUMBUS
Connie Jane Blessing, age 70, died unexpectedly at her home in Columbus, Indiana on Sunday, May 26, 2019. She was born January 11, 1949 in Columbus, Indiana to Robert and Rosemary (Paswater) Huston. Connie married Robert Blessing on July 21, 1973 at New Hope in Columbus, Indiana.
Connie was a graduate of Columbus High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Ball State and a master’s degree from Indiana University. She was a much beloved business and vocational teacher at Greensburg High School for over 40 years.
She also taught part-time for many years at IUPUC and IVY Tech. She loved running into former students who were now using the business skills she had taught them to succeed in life. She enjoyed reading, quilting, having tea at Tina’s Tea Room and spending time with her granddaughter. She was active in her home ec group and belonged to a local quilt guild.
She is preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Perry Huston and Randall Huston.
Connie is survived by her loving husband Robert; one daughter, Erin (Randy) Kingery; and one granddaughter, Ella Kingery of Greenwood, Indiana; one sister, Cheryl (Tom) Harman of Columbus, Indiana; sisters-in-law, Kathy Huston of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, Connie (Larry) VanEst of Columbus, and Brenda Blessing of St. Joseph, Missouri; nieces, Kristi Harman and Andrea (Travis) Lichlyter; nephews, Eric (Tara) VanEst, Dale VanEst, Kyle (Desirea) Harman, and Craig (Jasmine) Huston; great nephews, Ryder Harman, Elum VanEst, and Michael England; and great nieces, Ava Lichlyter, Marley VanEst, Brooke and Brenna England. Connie is also survived by many cousins and dear friends.
A celebration of Connie’s life will be held 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, August 3, 2019, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home. Pastor Jason Hyer of The United Methodist Church, and second cousin to Connie, will conduct a brief service starting at 3:30 p.m. The family asks that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to Greensburg Community Schools Education Foundation, Inc (http://greensburgsef.ss8.sharpschool.com/home). The family asks those attending services to dress casually and bring your favorite Connie story.
