Columbus police arrested a local man after he was accused of throwing a can of soda at an officer during a foot pursuit.
Officers observed Roger K. Godsey, 28, of 1591 Michigan Ave., at 3:30 p.m. Thursday near the 1300 block of Union Street. When officers spoke with Godsey, he gave a false identity, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.
A short time later, the officers attempted to take Godsey into custody and began to flee, Harris said.
During the foot pursuit, Godsey is accused of throwing a can of soda at an officer with some of the can’s contents spilling on the officer.
Officers used an electronic stun device in the foot pursuit, but it was not effective, Harris said. After jumping a fence and running through several yards, officers eventually apprehended Godsey in the 1200 block of Union Street, Harris said.
Godsey was arrested on preliminary charges of battery on a public safety officer, resisting law enforcement, false informing and a Jennings County warrant.
Godsey was being held without bond in the Bartholomew County Jail, jail officials said.
