Sheriff’s department name being used in scam

The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department is warning its name is being used in a telephone scam.

Today, a caller identified himself as being a lieutenant with the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department. He asked for money to be sent in order to post a bond or to make payments on other items.

Deputies said this is a scam. No one from the sheriff’s department will ask for money over the telephone. If you receive a call, just hang up or contact the sheriff’s department at 812-379-1650 to verify that someone from BCSO actually called you.

Deputies advised that residents should not give personal information over the phone and should not send money.

If you receive one of these calls or if you have any information, no matter how seemingly insignificant, send an email to: sheriff@bartholomew.in.gov
