Hauser soccer coach fired

Hauser’s new boys soccer coach didn’t make it beyond the first game of the season.

Fermin Recarte was let go as the Jets coach after being red-carded in Saturday’s 5-0 Mid-Hoosier Conference loss at Southwestern (Shelby). Hauser athletics director Tyler Phillips said Recarte had a disagreement with the Southwestern principal after he was asked to leave the field.

"At Southwestern last Saturday, Fermin was red carded, and we felt like he was defending our kids," Phillips said. "Obviously, we don’t condone ejections, but he had a disagreement with their principal. When you’re ejected, you’re asked to leave, and he had an altercation with their principal. We as an administration, that is not something we condone, and we asked him to step away from the program."

Recarte’s daughter Jackie was an assistant coach. She has not been back since Fermin was let go.

"We were going to give her the opportunity to stay," Phillips said. "When Fermin turned in his keys, he turned in hers also."

Veteran coach Andy Hunnicutt, who retired after last season, now is back coaching the Jets. He led the team on Thursday when it lost 2-1 at Knightstown, and will remain there for the rest of the season.

"Andy has agreed to step back in," Phillips said. "We’re going to post it immediately and are going to work toward next year.’
