Local woman dies in Edinburgh crash

EDINBURGH — A Columbus woman was killed in an a multi-vehicle accident Thursday afternoon in Edinburgh.

The three-vehicle crash at U.S. 31 and Eisenhower Drive was reported to the Bartholomew County Emergency Operations Center at 4:52 p.m. Thursday, according to the Bartholomew County Coroner’s office.

Dorothy Patricia Wagner, 74, Columbus, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Bartholomew County Coroner Clayton Nolting.

Wagner was driving a 2014 Honda Civic that collided with two cars in front of her that were stopped for a red light, investigators said. Nolting said Wagner’s cause of death was massive blunt force trauma.

Witnesses told investigators that Wagner was slumped over in her seat prior to the crash, Edinburgh police said.

A second driver was taken by Lifeline Helicopter to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis and is listed in serious condition, Edinburgh police said. A third driver was checked for injuries at the scene and released.

The crash is being investigated by Edinburgh Police Department, with reconstruction being done by Indiana State Police investigators.

Also assisting at the scene were the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department, Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Edinburgh Fire and Rescue, Lifeline and Columbus Regional Hospital medics.
