Bartholomew County Sheriff deputies arrested a local man on multiple charges after he was accused of causing an accident and then fleeing the scene.
Deputies were sent to a personal-injury accident in the 12000 block of East 25th Street at 10:04 p.m. Sunday. Deputies said a woman was driving the vehicle when Kevin Groover Jr., 42, of 14431 W. County Road 100S, grabbed the steering wheel, causing the vehicle to crash.
The woman was injured and was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital.
Groover Jr. then jumped into the driver’s seat and fled the scene in the wrecked vehicle, deputies said. Sgt. Jason Williams located the vehicle and stopped him in the 3000 block of North State Road 9, deputies said.
Groover Jr. was arrested on preliminary charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated — endangerment and resisting law enforcement, deputies said.
He has since been released from the jail, jail officials said.
Assisting at the scene were Deputy Grant Carlson, Lt. Gary Knoef, Deputy Ryland Flurh, Columbus Regional Hospital EMS and the Clay Township Fire Department.
