Services and studies

Dayspring Church Apostolic — Worship begins 11:15 a.m. at the church, 2127 Doctors Park Drive, Columbus.

Bible study 5:30 p.m. Tuesday builds on the message from the previous Sunday, with handout questions.

Prayer of Power starts 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, and preceded with requests and prayer instructions. Celebrate Recovery session starts 6:30 p.m. for about an hour.

Ignite is the Youth Growth Session that happens every third Friday.

East Columbus United Methodist — Pastor Ann Thomas will deliver the message from Luke at 9:30 a.m. Sunday service at the church, 2439 Indiana Ave. Communion will be served. Morning fellowship time begins at 9 a.m. in the foyer with beverages and light snacks.

Children receive their message at Children’s Church. A staffed nursery/toddler room is available during the morning service.

Sunday school is 10:40 a.m. for all ages, Bible interests.

Pastor Thomas will deliver the message at the 6 p.m. evening chapel service.

Tuesday afternoon Bible study begins at 1 p.m. in the chapel. The study is covering Philippians.

Wednesday evening Bible study begins 7 p.m. in the chapel, and is studying 1 Corinthians.

All are welcome to join any of the Bible study classes.

Fairlawn Presbyterian — Worship begins at 9:30 a.m. led by the Rev. Elizabeth Kirkpatrick, followed by fellowship time.

Child care is available during Sunday services and second hour studies.

A men’s breakfast is 7:30 a.m. the second Saturday of every month for men of all ages.

The Last Friday’s Bluegrass event is 7:30 p.m. the last Friday of every month. All are welcome to bring an instrument and play along or simply enjoy the music.

First Presbyterian — Worship begins at 9:30 a.m., at 512 Seventh St., Columbus. On Sunday, the sermon will be “Who’s Laughing Now?”, which is based on the story of Abraham and Sarah’s story.

Infant and toddler care is available 9:15 a.m. to noon.

Men’s and women’s support groups meet 7 a.m. Fridays, and a second men’s support group (working age men) meets 6:15 a.m. every Monday. People in the community in need of a meal are invited to Hot Meals offered at 5 p.m. Fridays (enter through glass doors on Franklin St.).

First Presbyterian is an LGBTQ-friendly church that is open and affirming to all.

First United Methodist — On Sunday, at 9 a.m. traditional service and 11 a.m. celebration service, Rev. Howard Boles will deliver the message, “The Values by which We Live: Setting Priorities,” at the church, 618 Eighth St., Columbus.

Scripture will be Luke 13:10-17. Sunday School begins 10:10 a.m. Child care available both services. Sunday school for all ages begins 10:10 a.m.

Flintwood Wesleyan — On Sunday, the Amplify (non-traditional) service begins 9 a.m. with Sunday School classes 10 a.m. in the regular rooms. The Well (traditional) service starts 11 a.m. Both services in main sanctuary and led by Rev. Wes Jones, senior pastor.

The Prayer Team meets at 8 a.m.

Sunday evenings Celebrate Recovery begins 5:25 p.m. meal in The Friendship Center; meeting starts 6 p.m. in main sanctuary. Public is invited to attend.

In the Beginning, a small group Bible study, resumes 6 p.m. Tuesday. Study will be on Genesis and will meet in Friendship Center. Meetings continue on Tuesdays. New members welcome to join.

Wednesday activities begins with 5:30 p.m. meal. The program, iKids (Ignite Kids) On Fire For Jesus! starts 6:15 p.m. This program is for kids in Pre-K through the sixth grade. If your child needs transportation, call the church office. The bus will run on Wednesday nights. The prayer team meets 6:30 p.m. in Prayer Room. Youth meets at 6:30 p.m. downstairs in the church. Bible study is at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary.

Thursday: Cub Scout Pack 588 will meet when events are scheduled and Boy Scout Troop 588 will meet at 7 p.m.

Grace Lutheran — The Rev. Jeffery Hemmer will bring the message based on Luke 14:25-35. Worship at 8 and 10:30 a.m. Adult Sunday school begins 9:30 a.m.

Lutheran Heritage Speaker Rev. Jeffery Hemmer will present “King, Warrior, Priest, Lover: the Holy callings of Manhood” Saturday 6:15 p.m. with Q&A to follow. Fellowship potluck before at 5:30 p.m. All welcome.

“Alpha, an introduction to Christianity” continues at 6 p.m. Tuesday with the topic “Why did Jesus die?”

Searching Scripture class continues at 6 p.m. Tuesday with the topic “The Ten Commandments.”

Old Union United Church of Christ — Sunday service is 10 a.m. Sunday school 9 a.m., fellowship at 9:40 a.m.

Scriptures for Sunday: Deuteronomy 30:15-20, Philemon 1:1-12 and Luke 14:25-33. Message will be “Costs of Discipleship.”

Petersville United Methodist — The Rev. Stormy Scherer-Berry will present her sermon, “Purpose & Meaning: Coherence,” at the 10 a.m. worship service Sunday morning on the church front lawn; Scriptures from Luke 9:1-2 will be shared. The question for the day will be “Where do we find our meaning and purpose?” Teresa Covert will give the children’s sermon.

A pitch-in lunch will follow the service. Those attending should bring food to share and their lawn chairs; drinks and tableware provided.

Both Bible study classes will resume 6:30 p.m. Monday at the home of the Noltings and at the home of Chris Kimerling. New members welcome. The Sit and Stitch group will begin meeting 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the home of Connie Nolting and new members may join at any time.

Choir practice, under the direction of Kathy Bush, will begin again at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Prayer Time, led by Barb Hedrick, meets 10 a.m. at the church each Thursday. The United Methodist Men’s meeting will be at 7:15 a.m. Sunday in the fellowship hall.

The United Methodist Women will meet at 6 p.m. Sept. 19 at the home of Patsy Harris in Hope.

St. Paul Lutheran — Pastor Doug Bauman will deliver the message, “A Christ-like Love,” based on Philemon 1-21 at the 8 and 10:45 a.m. services Sunday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 6045 E. State St., Columbus.

Christian education classes for all ages begin 9:30 a.m. Vicar Daniel Fickenscher will lead worship at the 2:30 p.m. Spanish service with Spanish/English Sunday School following at 3:30 p.m.

Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Columbus — The message at the 10 a.m. service Sunday will be “You and Me and Our Living Tradition” by the Rev. Nic Cable. Cable will discuss how identity is shaped and how it has changed in Unitarian Universalism tradition.

Westside Community — Pastor Dennis Aud will lead service at 10 a.m. Sunday at the church, corner of 46 West and Tipton Lakes Boulevard. Children’s program for birth-Grade 6 meets same time as 10 a.m. worship.

Wilson Chapel Christian Union — Sunday worship service begins at 9:30 a.m. The pastor is Jon Merrifield.

Sunday School classes meet at 10:30 a.m.

Praise Team practice is at 6 p.m. on Monday night.

Faith In Action, a community outreach program, meets 6 p.m. Wednesdays at the Family Life Center for prayer before going into the local community to share God’s love.

First United Methodist — Church hosting free concert in sanctuary as part of its Fridays@First series 7:30 p.m. Sept. 20. Concert features Arkady Orlovsky on cello, Tamara Orlovsky on piano. Doors open 7 p.m. Donations appreciated. Church located at 618 Eighth St., Columbus.

Lowell General Baptist — The church, 2102 Southline Drive, will host a hymn sing at 7 p.m. today. Jerry Caudill and Boys will be the featured singers.

Community Church of Columbus — DivorceCare, DivorceCare for Teens and DivorceCare for Kids will be offered for 12 weeks beginning Sept. 24. Sessions begin 6:30 p.m. Divorce ministry part of Tuesday Connection series. Church located at 522 Seventh St., Columbus.

East Columbus Christian — The church presents Fuel on Wednesday nights, which includes a free meal and Bible study from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. It is located at 3170 Indiana Ave., next to Columbus East High School.

East Columbus United Methodist Church — The church’s annual free neighborhood block party will be 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 14, rain or shine. The event will include free food, giveaways, games and prizes, a bounce house for kids and many local service providers will be present with information on programs available in our community. A free event open to the community.

First Lutheran — The church will host an Alzheimer’s Support Group meeting on the third Monday of each month from 4:30 to 6 p.m.

Led by Mary Ellen Wyman, former executive director of the local Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. A peer-led group of caregivers who are providing support for those living with Alzheimer’s or a related dementia. Not a group for individuals or patients diagnosed with dementia.

First United Methodist — On Sept. 25, Learning Tree Preschool will host World Fest in the First United Methodist Church parking lot, 618 Eighth St., Columbus.

All welcome to celebrate the rich heritage and cultures of families and friends who attend LTP through music, food, dancing, arts and crafts, games and more. Free event for all ages begins 5:30 p.m. Rain location will be Fellowship Hall inside the church.

Flintwood Wesleyan — The next open market will be 8:30 a.m. to noon today. Local artisans will be set up as well as vendors selling food and produce.

The monthly SAM luncheon will be at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 12 at The Friendship Center.

On Sept. 17, the church will host a fundraiser at Chicago Pizza. Eat in or take out; mention Flintwood Wesleyan Church an it gets a percentage of the take from 5-8 p.m.

On Sept. 21, the youth will have a Kiss the Critter Event. Details will be announced soon.

Petersville United Methodist — On Sept. 15, United Methodist Men will host annual hot dog roast and ice cream social at 5:30 p.m. They’ll provide hamburgers, hot dogs, ice cream. Attendees invited to bring a salad or dessert, and their lawn chairs, and gather on east side of church property, 2781 N. County Road 500E, Columbus.

{strong}St. Paul Lutheran — Church’s early childhood ministry host 13th annual golf scramble Sept. 21 at Shadowood Golf Course, 333. N. Sandy Creek Drive, Seymour.

Sign-in at 8 a.m., shotgun start at 9. Entry fee $240 per foursome, $60 per individual; includes continental breakfast, practice balls, green fees with cart, lunch, prizes.
