East downs Batesville
BATESVILLE — Alana Dwenger scored a pair of goals Thursday to lead Columbus East to a 3-1 win at Batesville.
Emily Stiles scored a first-half goal on a free kick for the Olympians (4-3-1). Both of Dwenger’s goals came in the second half off assists from Jaeda Berkemeier and Elena Stoughton.

East outshot the Bulldogs 9-3. Karisma Parker posted three saves.
Panthers stop Stars
NORTH VERNON — Baylee Byford netted three goals and two assists to lead Jennings County to a 7-2 Hoosier Hills Conference win against Bedford North Lawrence.
Morgan Lane scored two goals, and Emily Montgomery and Katie Pappenheim each added one for the Panthers (8-2, 1-2). Kerrigan Moore had two assists, and Lane and Sonya Miller each added one.
Jennings outshot the Stars 14-9. Kenna Maschino played the first half in goal and recorded three saves, and Tori Lee posted four saves in the second half.
Trinity tops Eagles
SEYMOUR — Kailene Cockerham netted two goals and an assist to lead Trinity Lutheran to a 3-1 win against Brown County.
Emma Goecker scored the first goal for the Cougars (3-4), and Emma Myers also had an assist. Ashley Goecker recorded 12 saves, and Samantha Enzinger added one save.
Hannah deWeerdt scored the first goal of the season for the Eagles (0-5-1) first goal of season off an assist from Marley Nickels. deWeerdt played the first half in goal and recorded three saves, and Sarah Callahan added eight saves in the second half.
BOYS TENNIS
East falls to Batesville
BATESVILLE — Columbus East got a shutout at No. 3 singles, but Batesville won the other four matches to hand the Olympians a 4-1 defeat.
Danny Murphy beat Jonathan Hoff 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles for East (1-9). Pranav Kumar fell to Lleyton Ratcliffe 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, and Derek Heideman lost to Adam Scott 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3 singles.
The Olympians’ Emmit Romine and Wyatt Romine fell to Seth Gausman and Cael Rahe 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles, and Matthew Degner and Caleb Wettschurack lost to Max Giesting and Sam Voegele 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.
Jets blank Jackets
MORRISTOWN — Hauser won all five matches in straight sets in a 5-0 MHC win at Morristown.
Ethan Wallace beat Tyler Schonfeld 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, Keagan Miller downed Grant Kessler 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and Sam Miller topped Jerry Riley 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles for the Jets (2-6, 2-1).
Hauser’s Caleb Hoover and Levi Gollmer beat Jacob Wood and Noah Klinger 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles. Alex Pattingill and Dawson Paul defeated Shane Riley and Nick Owens 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.
Eagles erase Edgewood
NASHVILLE — Brown County won its second Western Indiana Conference match in as many nights with a 5-0 victory against Edgewood.
Aaron McCann beat Lincoln Hammond 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, Josh Miller downed Gavin Norris 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles and Nolan Patterson topped Josiah Hinson 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles for the Eagles (12-1, 4-1). Noah Cochran and Spencer Blee beat Nicholas McBride and Zeke Weisner 6-1, 7-6 (5) at No. 1 doubles, and Reid Davis and Austen Deckard defeated Hayden Wilson and Chris Bitner (E) 6-0, 7-6 (5) at No. 2 doubles.
Brown County was coming off a 3-2 win against West Vigo Wednesday in a WIC match played at Edgewood. Miller beat Garrett Roush 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, Patterson downed Ashton Matherly 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles and Cochran and Blee topped Austin Roberson and Josh King 7-6 (7), 6-4 at No. 1 doubles. McCann fell to Dylan Lemon 3-6, 6-2, (10-4) at No. 1 singles, and Aiden Burt and Davis lost to Elijah Bahr and Gavin McCoy 7-5, 6-4 at No. 2 doubles.
Red Devils nip Panthers
JEFFERSONVILLE — Jennings County won the No. 2 and No. 3 singles matches, but Jeffersonville took the other three to claim a 3-2 decision.
Owen Law beat Gavin Lane 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles for the Panthers (4-7). Justin Ramey downed Zach Hackworth 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3 singles.
Jennings’ Wyatt St. John fell to Jared Wells 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Joe Kelley and Jacob Vogel lost to Adam Crawford and Cody Short 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles, and Alex Leach and Greyson Jackson fell to Tony Zalli and Reese Elder 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.
VOLLEYBALL
East loses to Pioneers
CLARKSVILLE — Columbus East ran into one of the state’s top teams and fell at Class 4A No. 2 Providence 25-6, 25-17, 25-12.
Reece Whitehead recorded four kills and 17 digs, and Rilee Jessee had four kills and 15 digs and one ace to lead the Olympians (6-4). Mady Foster added 11 digs, and Kenzie Foster had 10 digs.
Eagles sweep T-Birds
NASHVILLE — Brown County had little trouble in a 25-18, 25-21, 25-10 win against Eastern Greene.
Chloe Lee led the Eagles (7-1) with 15 kills and three blocks. Abigail Hollander rrecorded 19 assists, Millie Patrick tallied seven digs and Abigail Bowman served four aces.
Also for Brown County, Mary Rygiel pounded four kills, and Bowman had seven assists. Lauren Akles added two blocks, and Natalie Suding notched five digs.
Braves topple Lancers
TRAFALGAR — Edinburgh came close in the first and third sets, but fell 25-21, 25-12, 25-21 at Indian Creek.
Emily Chappelow pounded 13 kills, and Paige Burton recorded 15 assists to lead the Lancers (4-8). Gracie Myers tallied three digs and three aces, Callie Hancock had three digs and Carly Cowan served three aces.
Spartans sweep Cougars
SHELBYVILLE — South Decatur came up short in a 25-14, 25-15, 25-11 MHC loss at Southwestern (Shelby).
Lana Bell led the Cougars (2-16) with five kills and one solo and one assist block. Brook Somers pounded five kills, Whitnye Burton recorded six assists, Kalie Fry tallied 12 digs and Lily Rigby served an ace.
Also for South Decatur, Savannah Bushhorn and Loryn Pate each pounded three kills. Rigby notched five assists and an assist block, and Somers tallied 11 digs and an assist block.
Trinity tackles Stars
BEDFORD — Class A No. 3 Trinity Lutheran went on the road and knocked off 4A Bedford North Lawrence 25-17, 25-10, 25-18.
Bailey Reynolds led the Cougars (12-4) with 21 assists and five aces. Ruthie Bingham pounded seven kills, Sydney Jaynes had six blocks and Elly Carter tallied 10 digs.
Also for Trinity, Hoffman added six kills and four blocks, and Jaynes also had six kills. Reynolds and Kamzi Gross each notched eight digs, and Kennedy Hoffman served four aces.
BOYS SOCCER
Jets edge Spartans
HOPE — Hauser picked up its fourth consecutive win, a 1-0 MHC decision against Southwestern (Shelby).
Diego Vasquez scored an unassisted goal for the Jets (4-2, 2-1). Caleb Walker recorded 13 saves.
Columbus Christian falls
Columbus Christian is still looking for its first win after an 8-2 loss to Crosspointe Christian.
C.J. Reed and Nathan DeFriece scored goals for the Crusaders (0-3-1), who were outshot 15-7. Avery Hammond posted six saves.
GIRLS GOLF
Lancers win tri match
EDINBURGH — Morgan Calhoun won medalist honors with a 48 to lead Edinburgh to a tri-match win at Timbergate. The Lancers edged Eastern Hancock 211-212, while Morristown took third with a 272.
Maddy McGaha added a 53 for Edinburgh. Haven Link, Annelise Lollar and Jillian Turner all shot 55, and Serenity Smith had a 68.
Panthers take third
MADISON — Jennings County finished third in a tri match at Sunrise. New Albany won with a 185 to 202 for host Madison and 212 for the Panthers.
Sophia Curry led Jennings with a 44. Ellie Hearne carded a 46, Emy Ralston added a 58, Abby Rowlett shot 64 and Macie Cowan had a 70.
