Teens arrested on drug-related charges after traffic stop

Columbus police arrested two teens after a traffic stop after narcotics and drug paraphernalia were found inside their vehicle.

A CPD officer stopped a vehicle near Fifth and North Mapleton Street for a minor violation at 12:30 a.m. Friday, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

While speaking with the driver of the vehicle, Timothy M. Stover, 18, of Columbus, the officers noted that he showed signs of impairment. A Columbus police canine was requested to respond to the scene and later alerted to the odor of narcotics inside the vehicle, Harris said.

Officers searched Stover’s vehicle and located narcotics and drug paraphernalia inside the car. The officers arrested one of Stover’s passengers, Kaleb M. Jones, 19, of Columbus, Harris said.

They also ran Stover through a series of field sobriety tests. A search warrant was for a blood test was later obtained after Stover refused to submit to a blood draw at Columbus Regional Hospital, Harris said.

The two were taken to the Bartholomew County Jail on the following preliminary charges:

Timothy Stover: Possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, operating a vehicle while intoxicated, operating a vehicle without ever receiving a license, possession of methamphetamine
