Harry Crider and the Indiana Hoosiers football team went through a buzzsaw in a 51-10 loss against sixth-ranked Ohio State on Saturday.
Crider, a junior from Columbus East, started at left guard in the Big Ten opener for the Hoosiers (2-1, 0-1). Now the Buckeyes host Miami (Ohio) Saturday in another game with local ties.
The Redhawks team features running back Mitchell Burton and offensive lineman David Redding. Both are redshirt sophomores from Columbus North.

Spoon runs first
Asbury’s Justin Spoon won the Seventh Annual “Run for the Water Barrel” race on Wednesday.
Spoon, a junior from North, clocked in at 16 minutes, 51 seconds in the 5K (3.1-mile) race. The Eagle men won the event with 28 points, 25 better than runner-up Kentucky State.
Lax takes 67th
Belmont’s Sierra Lax finished 67th at the Commodore Classic 6K at Percy Warner Park near the campus of Vanderbilt on Saturday.
Lax, a senior from North, clocked in at 22:51 for 3.8 miles. The Bruins placed 16th out of 20 teams with a team score of 414. Ole Miss won with 76.

Anderson strong in opener
The Purdue-Fort Wayne women’s team finished 10th in the Golfweek Program Championship, but they etched itself in history.
Holly Anderson, a sophomore from North, and the rest of her teammates set a school-record for 54 holes with a 912, which is 28 strokes better than the previous record. Anderson finished with a total of 222, which was one stroke off the individual program record for 54 holes.
On Monday, Anderson led the Mastodons with a 75 in the Golden Grizzlies Invitational in Rochester, Michigan. She is tied for third individually, and PWF is in second place going into today’s final round.
Kim ties for 20th
Findlay’s Danbi Kim tied 20th overall and helped and giving the team a second-place finish with 889 in the University of Indianapolis Invitational. The host school finished six strokes better.
Kim, a sophomore from Columbus North, shot rounds of 74, 77 and 80.
Fateley finishes 21st
Bellevue’s Autumn Fateley finished 21st overall with a two-round total of 182 and helped the team to a second-place finish in its own invitational with a 671. William Penn won with a 653.
Fateley, a sophomore from East, carded a first-round score of 94, and improved on Day 2 with an 88.

Teo scores in victory
Bellarmine’s Natalie Teo netted her first goal of the season in a 1-0 victory over Cedarville on Tuesday.
Teo, a junior from North, scored the goal in the ninth minute off an assist from Isabella Zamborini. The Knights are 3-1-1.
Bentham preserves win
Fredonia State goalkeeper Ty Bentham, a senior from North, recorded four saves in a 2-1 win over Nazareth on Tuesday.
The Blue Devils are 2-2-2.
VOLLEYBALL
VanLiew has big games
Cortney VanLiew and the Florida Gulf Coast volleyball team were handed their first loss of the season 25-23, 25-18, 25-23 to Indiana University Friday in the Bluegrass Battle.
VanLiew, a junior from East, recorded 12 kills, 10 digs, a block and an ace. She also had 17 kills, three blocks and seven digs in a 30-28, 25-19, 24-26, 25-17 loss to No. 15 Kentucky and had 10 kills, 11 digs, two assists and three blocks in a 25-16, 25-15, 20-25, 25-20 win over Cleveland State.
The Eagles are 7-2.
Western still solid
Northern Kentucky’s Bailey Western recorded 11 kills, six blocks, two digs and an ace in an 18-25, 19-25, 26-24, 25-23, 15-9 loss to Ball State Friday in the Norse’s own invitational.
Western, a junior from East, also had seven kills, two blocks and a dig in a 19-25, 25-20, 25-22, 27-25 loss to Notre Dame and had seven kills, eight blocks and three digs in a 25-19, 22-25, 29-27, 23-25, 15-9 win over Cincinnati Saturday.
The Norse are 5-4.
Rooks contributes in win
Manchester’s Mackenzie Rooks, a junior from North, recorded five digs and an ace in the Spartans 19-25, 31-29, 21-25, 25-22, 15-9 win over St. Mary’s Wednesday.
The Spartans are 3-4.
