Olympians set records

NORTH VERNON — Eric Stiles netted three goals, and Jorge Nieto tied the school’s all-time assist record with 24 to lead Class 3A No. 6 Columbus East 9-0 win at Jennings County,

Logan Cline and Chris Quisenberry each scored two goals, and Kevin Sanchez added one goal for the Olympians (9-0-1, 4-0), who also scored on an own goal. Nieto and Quisenberry each provided two assists, and Leyton Erfmeier, Cline and Branson Young all had one assist.

East outshot the Panthers (2-8, 0-3) 30-1. Zach Roberts and Pete Coriden combined on the shutout in goal, giving Roberts the school career shutout record with 25.

Columbus Christian falls

INDIANAPOLIS — Columbus Christian came away with a 14-2 loss at Christel House Academy.

C.J. Reed scored a goal for the Cougars (0-5-1). Their other score came on an own goal.

Stars topple Trinity

BEDFORD — Trinity Lutheran took on a much bigger Bedford North Lawrence team and fell 10-2.

Micah Baumgartel scored on a penalty kick in the first half and assisted on a goal by Sawyer Doggett in the second half for the Cougars (1-9). Brayden Stockelman played the first 60 minutes in goal and recorded four saves, and Josh Rowe posted six saves over the final 20 minutes.

GIRLS SOCCER

North shuts out Franklin

FRANKLIN — Lauryn Whitley scored two goals to lead Class 3A No. 16 Columbus North to a 5-0 win at Franklin.

KJ Ely, Emily Kleinhelter and Caroline Hollenkamp all scored one goal for the Bull Dogs (10-1). Hollenkamp, Riley Schumm and Nadia Zabrowski had assists.

North outshot the Grizzly Cubs 30-1. Kaylyn Bates recorded one save in the shutout.

Panthers slay Dragons

NORTH VERNON — Katie Pappenheim scored two goals to lead Jennings County to a 3-0 senior night win against Silver Creek.

The other score for the Panthers (9-4) came on an own goal. Baylee Byford had two assists.

Jennings outshot the Dragons 15-4. Kenna Maschino played the first half in goal and posted one save, Tori Lee had two saves in 18 minutes, and Carissa Sablehaus recorded one save over the final 22 minutes.

VOLLEYBALL

Jets sweep Cougars

GREENSBURG — Class A No. 9 Hauser remained unbeaten in the Mid-Hoosier Conference with a 25-13, 25-13, 25-6 win at South Decatur.

Kylie Lock led the Jets (12-4, 2-0) with 12 kills and 14 digs. Aunaka Wasil recorded 32 assists, Olivia Wright had four blocks and Shelby Fugate and Andie Clark each served two aces.

Also for Hauser, Hannah Johnson notched 11 kills and an ace, and Wright added five kills. Adrianna Musillami tallied two assists, Lock and Wasil each had two blocks, Andie Clark contributed 11 digs and Melanie Taylor added nine digs.

Lana Bell led the Cougars (2-17, 0-4) with five kills and seven digs. Loryn Pate pounded five kills, Whitnye Burton recorded nine assists, Brook Somers had two blocks and Kalie Fry served six aces.

Crusaders stay unbeaten

Columbus Christian ran its record to 12-0 with a 25-18, 25-17, 25-19 Southern Roads Conference win against Christian Academy of Madison.

Kayla Jones recorded one kill, two assists, 12 digs and five aces; Madison Henderson notched seven kills, one block six digs, two aces and Hannah Stair had three kills, 20 assists, four digs, five aces for the Crusaders (12-0, 3-0).

Also for Columbus Christian, Lauren Hunnicutt tallied seven kills, two digs and one ace. Emily Stair added one kill, two assists, six digs and three aces; Ellie Ridder had five kills and three digs and Ann Marie Gandy pounded three kills.

Eagles sweep Lancers

NASHVILLE — Brown County picked up a 25-18, 25-10, 25-14 win against Edinburgh.

Chloe Lee pounded 12 kills, Abigail Bowman recorded 15 assists, Natalie Suding and Whitney Clark each tallied four digs and Myka Snyder served four aces to lead the Eagles (8-4). Mary Rygiel added four kills, Abigail Hollander notched 12 assists and four aces and Addison Branson served four aces.

The Lancers fell to 4-13.

Trinity tops Saints

SEYMOUR — Class A No. 1 Trinity Lutheran overcame a close second set to post a 25-10, 25-22, 25-12 win against Indianapolis Lutheran.

The Cougars improved to 17-5.

East falls to Owls

SEYMOUR — Seymour won four matches in straight sets in handing Columbus East a 4-1 defeat.

Danny Murphy beat Braden Handloser 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3 singles for the Olympians (1-11).

East’s Pranav Kumar fell to Isaac Hardin 6-4, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, and Matthew Degner lost to Will Rinehart 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Wyatt Romine and Derek Heideman fell to Brandon Hubbard and Andrew Levine 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles, and Emmit Romine and Caleb Wettschurack lost to Eli Meyer and trey Hohenstreiter 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.

Pirates blank Jets

GREENSBURG — Greensburg won all five matches in straight sets in a 5-0 win against Hauser.

Ethan Wallace fell to Brett Stringer 6-0, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, Keagan Miller lost to Isaac Tebbe 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and Sam Miller fell to Charlie Pumphrey 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3 singles for the Jets (2-8).

Hauser’s Caleb Hoover and Levi Gollmer lost to Sam Bower and Ben Duerstock 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles. Alex Pattingill and Dawson Paul fell to Abe Tebbe and Bryce Stringer 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

Eagles edge Mohawks

NASHVILLE — Brown County picked up a 3-2 victory after Waldron had to retire at No. 2 singles.

Josh Miller was leading Parker Huffman 6-3, 1-0 when Huffman retired. Aiden Burt and Nolan Patterson beat Ian Carter and Dakota Tillison (W) 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1oubles, and Noah Cochran and Spencer Blee downed Mitch Coon and Lucas Mitchell 6-3, 6-1 for the Eagles (13-2).

Brown County’s Aaron McCann fell to Mick Abbott 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, and Reid Davis lost to Shawn Cole 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.

Lancers down Saints

EDINBURGH — Edinburgh picked up its second win of the season, a 4-1 victory against Indianapolis Lutheran.

Brayden McManaway beat Cole Perkins 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, and Travis Jones downed Reece Bullock 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 singles for the Lancers (2-8). Parker Newman and Chase Littlejohn topped Cade Tabit and Isaac Vance 2-6, 7-5, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles, and Kolton Reed and Preston Smith blanked Josh Knippenberg and Spencer Barnett 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

Edinburgh’s Max Blandford fell to Jonas Akers 4-6, 6-4, (10-3) at No. 2 singles.

Lancers win tri match

GREENSBURG — Edinburgh wrapped up the regular season with a 193-215 win against Southwestern (Shelby), while North Decatur had only three golfers.

Morgan Calhoun led the Lancers with a 43 at Timbergate. Maddy McGaha carded a 46, Annelise Lollar added a 51, Haven Link shot 53, Jillian Turner had a 57 and Serenity Smith finished with a 68.
