Starting and ending at Ivy Tech State College, hundreds of participants in the Tri-County Start! Heart Walk completed circuits of one or three miles in support of heart health and an aim to raise $70,000 for research and education in 2009. From The Republic archives

Although officials braced for a line pf panicked customers ready to empty their bank accounts, the opening of First Financial Bank on Washington Street, formerly Irwin Union Bank, unfolded calmly.

1994

Five Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. seniors were among 15,000 students nationwide selected as National Merit Scholarship semifinalists. They were: Maegan M. Peabody, Mark Panning, Patrick Schubel and Nathan Nehrt, all of Columbus North, and Matt Kane of Columbus East.

1969

Philip Bolenbaugh, a senior at Columbus High School, and Joyce Thayer, a senior at Hauser High School, were among 15,000 pupils from around the country to be named semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship program.
