North wins showdown
FLOYDS KNOBS — In a match that featured four three-setters, fourth-ranked Columbus North pulled out a 3-2 victory at No. 3 Floyd Central in a potential semistate preview.
Tied 2-2, the Bull Dogs’ Matthew Liu and Joey Zhao trailed 5-1 in third set at No. 1 doubles before rallying to win six consecutive games to claim a 7-5, 3-7, 7-5 victory against Alex Poe and Eric Whitehouse and give North its first win against the Highlanders.

“It was pretty interesting and exciting on how the guys little by little started getting back into the set, and it paid off,” North coach Kendal Hammel said. “It was an exciting match with the three-setters. It’s a big win and an exciting win for the program.”
Nathan Lin beat Connor Mason 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, and Adam Saad downed Jake Thompson 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 singles for the Bull Dogs (13-0). Bhavey Jain fell to Gabe Cora 6-1, 1-6, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, and Eamon Ma and Will King lost to Joe Lincoln and Aaron Seay 6-4, 1-6, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.
Olympians go 1-2
Columbus East went 1-2 in its own invitational. The Olympians fell to Providence 3-2, beat Martinsville 4-1 and lost to Evansville Memorial 4-1.
Danny Murphy won all three of his No. 3 singles matches in straight sets for the Olympians (2-13). Matthew Degner went 1-1 at No. 2 singles. Wyatt Romine and Derek Heideman at No. 1 doubles and Emmit Romine and Caleb Wettschurack at No. 2 doubles posted wins against Martinsville.
Jets earn MHC honors
WALDRON — Three Hauser players earned All-Mid-Hoosier Conference honors after finishing second in their respective brackets.
Ethan Wallace at No. 1 singles and Caleb Hoover and Levi Gollmer at No. 1 doubles each finished second for the Jets. The Lancers’ Max Blandford finished second at No. 2 singles.
Brown County prevails
GREENCASTLE — Brown County won four matches in straight sets in a 4-1 Western Indiana Conference victory at South Putnam.
Aaron McCann beat Brandon Rector 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, Josh Miller downed Trey Blaydes 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and Reid Davis topped Jaxon Hodge 6-0, 6-4 at No. 3 singles for the Eagles (14-2, 5-1). Aiden Burt and Nolan Patterson beat Nate Clearwater and Robbie Fisher 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles.
Brown County’s Noah Cochran and Spencer Blee fell to Marcus Robinson and Brady Robinson 6-7 (3), 7-5, (12-10) at No. 2 doubles.
Panthers drop three
WHITELAND — Jennings County went 0-3 in the Whiteland Invitational. The Panthers fell to Shelbyville 4-1, Whiteland 5-0 and Batesville 3-2.
Justin Ramey picked up the win at No. 3 singles for the Panthers (4-11) against Shelbyville and teamed with Jacob Vogel for a victory at No. 2 doubles against Batesville. The other win against Batesville came from Joe Kelley and Owen Law at No. 1 doubles.

Bull Dogs rout Patriots
TERRE HAUTE — Jenna Lang and Lauren Barker each scored two goals to lead Class 3A No. 16 Columbus North to a 9-0 Conference Indiana win at Terre Haute North, its first win over the Patriots in five years.
Rion Stevens, Laney Moore, Nadia Zabrowski, Claire Lyvers and Kate Kolhouse added goals for the Bull Dogs (11-1, 4-0). Lauryn Whitley tallied three assists, while Caroline Hollenkamp and Lang each added two assists and Nitya Chenanda and Barker each had one assist.
The Bull Dogs outshot the Patriots 24-2. Kaylyn Bates and Mallory Gilley each recorded one save.

Patriots blank Bull Dogs
TERRE HAUTE — Columbus North played Terre Haute North to a scoreless draw for most of its Conference Indiana matchup, but the Patriots scored in the 84th and 86th minutes to claim a 2-0 victory.
The Bull Dogs (3-7-1, 2-2) outshot Terre Haute North 20-7, but the Patriots put five on goal to only two for Columbus North. Colvin Iorio recorded three saves.
Jets fall to Indians
HOPE — Hauser had its five-game winning streak snapped with a 4-2 loss to Anderson.
Diego Vasquez and Franco Avila scored goals for the Jets (5-3), and Cameron Scott had an assist. Carter Scott recorded seven saves.
Bulldogs blank Panthers
NEW ALBANY — Jennings County had a rough day in a 10-0 Hoosier Hills Conference loss at New Albany.
Cameron Woodard posted 11 saves, and Braden Foster had four saves for the Panthers (1-11, 0-4).

Bull Dogs take seventh
NEW ALBANY — Columbus North went 1-3 to finish seventh in New Albany’s Ultra Ankle Challenge.
North (5-10) fell to Castle 25-19, 25-12; Floyd Central 25-7, 25-15 and Silver Creek 22-25, 25-20, 15-4 before beating Jeffersonville 25-16, 25-22 in the seventh-place match.
Jets finish runner-up
LAWRENCEBURG — Hauser beat South Dearborn 25-10, 25-17 and Class A No. 6 Rock Creek Academy 19-25, 25-21, 15-10 before falling to Lawrenceburg 25-23, 25-23 in the championship game of the Lawrenceburg Tournament.
Shelby Fugate led the Jets (14-5) with 23 kills and 39 digs. Aunaka Wasil recorded 57 assists, Olivia Wright had two blocks and Mary Branum served seven aces.
Also for Hauser, Kylie Lock tallied 19 kills and 28 digs; and Hannah Johnson added 15 kills, one block and five aces. Olivia Wright pounded seven kills; Adrianna Mussilami notched four assists, Andie Clark had 27 digs, Melanie Taylor added two assists and 24 digs, Fugate and Marnie Schwartzkopf each had one block and Wasil served six aces.
Crusaders take fourth
HAMMOND — Columbus Christian took advanced to the semifinals of Calumet Christian’s Coach Casey Classic before dropping its first two matches of the season to finish fourth.
The Crusaders (13-2) went 5-1 in single-set matches to finish second of seven teams in their pool. They then beat Portage Christian 23-25, 25-13, 15-13 before falling to Goshen Christian 25-10, 25-13 and to Calumet Christian 25-22, 25-15 in the third-place match.
Lauren Hunnicutt recorded 36 kills, four solo and one block assist, four digs and 11 aces to earn one of seven spots on the All-Tournament team. Madison Henderson added 29 kills, 18 digs and 22 aces; and Hannah Stair had seven kills, 78 assists, one solo and one assist block, nine digs and 15 aces.
Also for Columbus Christian, Ellie Ridder tallied 23 kills, 12 digs and nine aces; and Emily Stair notched three kills, six assists, 14 digs and five aces. Kayla Jones had two kills, 28 digs, seven aces, and Ann Marie Gandy pounded five kills and two blocks.
Miners sweep Eagles
LINTON — Brown County got off to a slow start in a 25-8, 25-14, 25-12 loss at Linton.
Mary Rygiel and Milly Patrick each pounded six kills, and Londyn Koester recorded six digs for the Eagles (8-5). Patrick and Whitney Clark each added five digs.

Jennings boys win
AURORA — Jennings County took the top four spots and five of the top six in Division I in running to victory in the South Dearborn Invitational.
The Panthers finished with 16 points to 64 for runner-up Ryle (Kentucky). Carter Leak won in 16 minutes, 7 seconds for 5,000 meters (3.1 miles), while Lane Elsner finished second in 16:24, Gavin Hendrix third (16:41), Drew Stroud fourth (16:56) and AJ Siener sixth (17:13).
Columbus East edged Jennings 77-78 for third place in the girls meet. Greensburg won with 55, and Ryle was second with 70.
Chloe Kruger led the Olympians, who were without top runner Olivia Linnemann because of another commitment, with an eighth-place finish in 21:00. Laurel Knight took 10th in 21:29, while Olivia Shoaf was 16th (21:59), Jordan Spurgeon 19th (22:55) and Mallory Rupp 24th (23:18).
Emma Morrison finished second in 19:58 to lead the Panthers. Heather Sea took 11th in 21:35, while Halle Franks was 13th (21:39), Liz Wahlman 15th (21:45) and Rilee Hicks 37th (24:34).

Panthers take sixth
MADISON — Jennings County finished sixth in the Madison Sectional with a 441, but advanced individual Sophia Curry to Saturday’s Roncalli Regional.
Curry led the Panthers with a 92 at Sunrise. Ellie Hearne carded a 98, Emy Ralston added a 125, Lavanna Rickly shot 126 and Abby Rowlett had a 132.
Madison and Southwestern (Hanover) each shot 371, with the Cubs taking the title on the fifth-score tiebreaker. Scottsburg claimed the third-and-final team-qualifying spot to the regional with a 398.

Cougars top Lancers
GREENSBURG — South Decatur scored a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns to rally for a 25-21 win against Edinburgh in a back-and-forth game Friday night.
The Lancers (0-5) jumped out to a 7-0 lead when Austin Streeval intercepted a pass and returned it 72 yards for a touchdown. Streeval later scored again on a 22-yard run to tie the game at 13-13 with 2:52 left in the third quarter.
A 9-yard scoring run by Lennon DeLoach with 10:48 remaining in the game, followed by a Streeval 2-point conversion, gave the Lancers a 21-13 advantage, but the Cougars (2-3) were able to respond with two touchdowns down the stretch. Wyatt Gatewood hit Hunter Collins for 16 yards to cut the lead to 21-19, and Gatewood scored on a 2-yard keeper with 1:48 remaining to put South Decatur ahead.
The Cougars’ first two touchdowns came on a 31-yard pass from Gatewood to Collins and a 5-yard run from Clayton McNealy.
Hornets shut out Eagles
BEECH GROVE — Beech Grove jumped out to a 35-0 halftime lead Friday and went on to post a 43-0 win against Brown County.
“We had a rough night,” Brown County coach Randy Minniear said. “We were missing three of our starters with injuries. No excuse for the way we lost, but we just couldn’t get going. They were a good team, and we just got outplayed.”
The Eagles fell to 2-3.
