Hundreds of Mill Race Marathon runners picked up their race packets and perused the Health and Fitness Expo as they geared up for the sixth annual Mill Race Marathon.

Some 30 information booths were arranged in a circular fashion in the meeting space on the second floor of The Commons, allowing runners and their families the chance to play some games, win prizes, snag free gear from Anthem and other companies and partake in several free health and wellness assessments, including physical therapy and acupuncture.

Within the first 90 minutes of the expo, nearly a dozen people had stopped by the Columbus Regional Health booth and received Astym therapy, a therapy designed to help reabsorb scar tissue and regenerate damaged soft tissue, said Derek Whitehead, senior physical therapist and athletic trainer at Columbus Regional Health.

“Tonight is when it gets really busy,” Whitehead said. “We’ve probably treated 10 people this morning, but only within the first hour and a half. By the end of the night we’ll probably have 100.”
