The Columbus East junior varsity soccer team improved to 10-0 with a 9-0 win at Jeffersonville.
Maggie Mathews scored three goals, and Sydney Berkemeier added two for the Olympians. Grace Wiltsey, Riley Gaskill, Erin McIntyre and Isabella Saldivar all had one goal.
Ashley Thomasson recorded four assists. Berkemeier added two assists, and Mathews and Sophia Leach each had one assist.
Anna Liimatta did not need to record a save in posting the shutout on goal.
FOOTBALL
Rebels top East JV
Devon Cox and Ty Uphaus each ran for two touchdowns, but the Columbus East junior varsity came away with a 35-28 loss to Roncalli.
Cox ran for scores of 30 and 10 yards, and Uphaus ran for 3- and 1-yard TDs. Tryce Villarreal and Uphaus each had a two-point conversion.
BOYS TENNIS
Spartans down Cubs
Northside Middle School improved to 7-1 with a 4-1 win against Franklin.
Parth Shah, Param Patel and Sam Song won singles matches for the Spartans. Nathan Enneking and Leo Guo won their doubles match.
CROSS-COUNTRY
Jennings boys win meets
The Jennings County Middle School boys won both the Central Invitational and their own Jennings County Invitational.
In the Central meet, the Panthers scored 45 points to 60 for St. Peters and 68 for Central. Jennings’ Sam Fewell won the race in 11 minutes, 5 seconds, while Zach Wahlman finished sixth (11:37), Elijah Hatton seventh (11:40), Brock Maschino 10th (12:08) and Isaac Gasper 19th (12:35).
The Panthers edged Central 35-36 in the Jennings meet. Fewell won in 11:36, while Wahman was sixth (12:16), Hatton seventh (12:23), Maschino eighth (12:37) and Gasper 13th (13:06).
The Jennings girls had four runners, one short of the number needed to score as a team. Kennedy Woods finished 11th in 14:38, while Sarah Poole was 15th (15:40), Justine Jones 17th (15:53) and Paige Daniels 18th (22:00).
VOLLEYBALL
Panthers top Chargers
The Jennings County seventh-grader White team beat Central 25-14, 25-15, and the Panther eighth-grade White squad claimed a 11-25, 25-11, 15-13 victory against the Chargers on Thursday.
Julian Woodard pounded five kills, and Charlee Barlow served 10 aces for the Jennings eighth-graders (14-4). Mallory Manowitz, Ava Ebbing, Kennedy Day and Claire Hack all served two aces for the Panther seventh-graders (12-6).
Jennings was coming off a sweep of Batesville Tuesday. Woodard tallied seven kills, and Barlow had seven aces to lead the eighth-graders to a 25-18, 25-13 win. Manowitz and Day each served three aces to lead the seventh-graders to a 25-21, 25-19 victory.
Last weekend, both Panther teams finished second in the Tri-County Tournament. The eighth-graders beat Northside 25-11, 25-8 before falling to Seymour 25-13, 25-17 in the title game. Woodard notched seven kills against Northside, and Barlow had five aces against Northside and four aces against Barlow.
The Jennings seventh-graders beat Northside 25-15, 25-10 before falling to Seymour 25-16, 25-16 in the title game. Claire Hack served seven aces against Northside, and Markiah Bowman had two aces against Seymour.
Meanwhile, the Panther seventh- and eighth-grade Blue teams fell to North Decatur on Tuesday. Lily Stidham and Sammi Risk each served two aces for the eighth-graders (1-6) in a 25-18, 25-21 loss. Hunter Bolden had an ace for the seventh-graders (2-5) in a 25-24, 25-13 defeat.
