Around Town – October 4

Orchids to …

• Papa’s Grill for the awesome service on Wednesday.

• the “very stable genius” in the White House.

• the Lovelace, Carson and Hege families for their kindness and generosity, from John Tinkey.

• Bree in the produce department at the east-side Walmart for great customer service!

• the woman named Amanda at the First Financial Bank at Third and Brown streets who was friendly, had a vibrant personality — pure, genuine and rare — and made this old man’s day.

• Linda Kay Estes for delicious homemade meatloaf and mashed potatoes, from Betty Holder.

• Elaine Wagner who made an honest mistake and should hold her head high because she is one of the most hardworking city council members and she listens to the people she represents.

• the beautiful canna flowers on Newsom Avenue in Columbus.

• Belle Tire, for the customer-friendly service, from Jack.

• the ladies at the front desk at The Republic because they were very nice, very helpful and it was a joy to do business with them.

• Nancy Pence Fritsch for sending me the milkweed seeds a couple of years ago so that my grandchildren and I can watch and learn the life cycle of the monarch butterfly, from Karen Weales.

Onions to …

• the Democratic Party for the unwanted signs.

• those who don’t realize that our historians are better judges of Obama’s performance than they are.

• the man that ran me off of County Road 800N near I-65, Wednesday at 5:10 p.m., as he crossed the center line while looking down, I assume at his phone.

• the adults who participated in the high school students’ 5K and won, because high school students could have won.

• people not visiting the library that fill the library parking lot daily, forcing other patrons to park where they can on the streets.

• the people who submit the same political onions every day as if it’s going to change anyone’s mind about who they support.

• the so-called Republican city officials who have done nothing but raise our taxes and waste our money.

• anyone who thinks Obama did anything positive for this country, because he was the worst president ever.

• the Democrats for not wanting to hear what I heard someone else say.
