The Bartholomew County Coroner’s Office has released the identity of a man found dead Thursday afternoon in a farm field off Indianapolis Road.

Coroner Clayton Nolting said the man found in the field was Danny R. Green, 39, of 2340 N. Indianapolis Road. Green’s body was found around 3:30 p.m. in the field about 25 feet off the east side of the road north of Tellman Camp Road.

An autopsy was performed Friday at Columbus Regional Hospital by a forensic pathologist, the coroner’s office said.

Findings from the autopsy, including toxicology, may be available in about two weeks, according to Nolting.

Bartholomew County Sheriff deputies and the Columbus Township Fire Department were called to the Indianapolis Road location after a farmer harvesting corn found Green in the field, deputies said.

A missing person’s report for an individual from the same general area had been given to the sheriff’s department earlier in the afternoon Thursday. Sheriff Matt Myers said investigators believed they knew who the individual was on Thursday.

After Green was identified and all family notifications completed, the name was released to the media on Friday.

Green had been arrested by sheriff deputies on Tuesday, booked into the jail and then released, on a charge of leaving the scene of an accident, according to jail records. His bond had been set at $2,500 but Green was released under the new jail proxy that allows individuals who qualify to be released without having to post bond, jail records show.

Sheriff deputies said Green’s family lives near where the body was found along Indianapolis Road.

Investigators at the scene on Thursday said that deputies did not suspect foul play but the investigation would continue until they were 100 percent sure.
